Luca reached the investigation headquarters before sunrise.
The lead investigator spread dozens of photographs across the conference table.
“The wreckage is real,” he said. “The explosion happened exactly as reported.”
“But one thing doesn't make sense.”
He slid a surveillance photo forward.
Valeria was entering the private terminal.
Another photo followed.
She was speaking to a woman wearing a flight attendant's uniform.
Then came the final image.
Valeria walking away through a restricted exit.
Not toward the aircraft.
Away from it.
Luca stared at the photographs without blinking.
His heart pounded so hard it hurt.
“She's alive...” he whispered.
The investigator nodded slowly.
“Someone planned this very carefully.”
“The woman disappeared minutes before takeoff.”
“Who helped her?”
Luca already knew.
“Clara.”
Within an hour, every airport, harbor, and border crossing under the Moretti family's influence received one order.
Find Valeria.
No matter where she is.
Days turned into weeks.
Weeks turned into months.
Luca searched across Europe, South America, and Asia.
He bribed governments.
He bought surveillance footage.
He questioned pilots, doctors, and immigration officers.
Every false lead pushed him closer to madness.
Meanwhile...
On the other side of the world...
Valeria had a new name.
A small seaside town became her home.
No bodyguards.
No diamonds.
No Mafia.
Just peace.
Every morning she opened the windows of her little bakery before the sun rose.
The smell of fresh bread filled the quiet streets.
For the first time in years...
She could breathe.
Months later, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
Holding her daughter for the first time, she cried.
Not from sadness.
From relief.
“You're safe now,” she whispered.
“No one will ever lie to us again.”
Back in Italy, Luca had become a ghost of himself.
He stopped attending parties.
He abandoned every celebration.
Even the Mafia families whispered that the once-feared heir had disappeared.
Then one rainy afternoon...
His assistant rushed into the office.
“Sir...”
“We found Clara.”
An hour later, Clara sat across from Luca.
She looked exhausted.
But she wasn't afraid.
“Where is she?” Luca asked quietly.
Clara smiled sadly.
“Why?”
“So you can lie to her again?”
Luca lowered his head.
“No.”
“So I can spend the rest of my life apologizing.”
For several seconds, Clara said nothing.
Then she placed a photograph on the desk.
Luca's hands trembled as he picked it up.
Valeria stood outside a small bakery.
A little girl, barely learning to walk, laughed in her arms.
The child had Valeria's smile.
And Luca's eyes.
The world around him disappeared.
His daughter...
She was alive.
Without waiting another second, Luca boarded the first flight.
After nearly a year of searching...
He was finally going to face the woman he had lost.
Whether she forgave him...
Or hated him forever.
