The ballroom fell into complete silence.
Every guest stared at the sapphire bracelet resting inside the velvet pouch.
It was my mother's bracelet.
The one Elena had given me that morning.
The one that had somehow ended up inside my suitcase.
"I didn't put it there," I said firmly.
No one answered.
Maria folded her arms with a look of disappointment.
"Sophia, if you wanted the bracelet, you only had to ask."
"Stop lying," I snapped.
"That bracelet belonged to my mother."
"Your mother left many things behind," Maria replied calmly.
"You're simply confused."
"Confused?"
"Grief makes people remember things differently."
I took a step forward.
"Don't you dare speak about my mother."
Before I could get any closer, Vincent caught my arm.
"Enough."
I turned toward him.
"Tell her she's lying."
His grip tightened slightly.
"Calm down first."
"No."
"Sophia..."
"Just answer me."
"Do you believe I stole that bracelet?"
His eyes searched mine.
For one heartbeat, I thought he would defend me.
Instead, he sighed.
"I believe there's a misunderstanding."
My smile disappeared.
"That's not what I asked."
"The bracelet was found in your luggage."
"Someone put it there."
"Can you prove that?"
Those five words broke something inside me.
"So that's your answer."
Vincent remained silent.
That silence was enough.
Don Romano looked disappointed.
"Sophia, apologize to Isabella."
"For what?"
"For this embarrassing situation."
"I won't apologize for something I didn't do."
"Then you'll stay in your room until you've reflected on your behavior."
I laughed.
It wasn't a happy laugh.
It sounded empty.
"You're grounding me?"
"Watch your attitude."
"No, Father."
"I've spent years watching mine."
Without another word, I turned and walked upstairs.
Nobody stopped me.
Not even Vincent.
Inside my bedroom, I slammed the door shut.
Tears threatened to fall, but I refused to let them.
"Miss Sophia?"
Elena knocked softly before entering.
"I know you didn't steal it."
"Thank you."
"I swear I saw the bracelet on your wrist before dinner."
"I know."
"Someone must have taken it."
"Someone wanted everyone to think I was a thief."
Elena lowered her voice.
"Be careful of Maria."
"You think she did this?"
"I don't know."
"But she smiled when they found the bracelet."
I replayed the evening in my head.
Maria's accusations.
The missing bracelet.
The convenient discovery inside my luggage.
Nothing about it felt natural.
Someone had planned this.
Much later that night, another knock came.
I didn't answer.
"Sophia."
Vincent.
"Please open the door."
"Why?"
"We need to talk."
"We already did downstairs."
"No, we didn't."
"You chose not to."
Silence.
"Please," he said quietly.
Against my better judgment, I unlocked the door.
Vincent stepped inside.
He looked exhausted.
For a few seconds, neither of us spoke.
"Are you here to search my room again?"
"Don't do that."
"Why not?"
"Because I know you're hurt."
"You know nothing."
He walked closer.
"I never said I thought you stole it."
"You didn't have to."
"Sophia..."
"I asked one simple question."
"Do you trust me?"
"You couldn't answer."
"The evidence..."
"Evidence can be planted."
"I know."
"Then why didn't you say it?"
Vincent closed his eyes briefly.
"Because everyone was watching."
"Exactly."
"Your reputation mattered more than mine."
"That's not true."
"Then prove it."
He looked at me helplessly.
"I can't undo tonight."
"No."
"But you can choose what happens next."
"I'm trying."
"Too late."
I walked toward the wardrobe and opened it.
One suitcase was already packed.
Then another.
Vincent stared at them.
"You're leaving now?"
"Tomorrow morning."
"The wedding is still over a week away."
"I don't want to stay in a house where I'm treated like a criminal."
"I'll speak to your father."
"For what?"
"To clear this up."
"Will you tell him you trust me?"
He hesitated.
That tiny hesitation was all I needed.
"Good night, Vincent."
"Sophia..."
"Please leave."
This time, he didn't argue.
He quietly walked out of the room.
After the door closed, I finally allowed myself to cry.
The next morning, Alexander arrived earlier than expected.
He found me sitting alone in the garden with my luggage beside me.
"You look like you didn't sleep," he said gently.
"I didn't."
"I heard about last night."
I looked away.
"I'm sorry you had to hear that gossip."
"I don't believe it."
His answer came so quickly that I looked back at him.
"You don't?"
"No."
"Why?"
"Because guilty people defend themselves with anger."
"You defended yourself with heartbreak."
"There's a difference."
For the first time since the accusation, someone believed me without asking for proof.
My eyes became warm.
"Thank you."
"You never have to thank someone for trusting you."
Before I could answer, a black car stopped at the front gate.
Lucas stepped out.
He hurried toward us.
"Sophia."
"Lucas?"
He lowered his voice.
"I checked the security footage from yesterday."
My heart skipped.
"And?"
"Someone entered your room while everyone was downstairs preparing for dinner."
"Who was it?"
Lucas's expression turned serious.
"The cameras only captured the person's back."
"Can you recognize them?"
"Not clearly."
"But I know one thing."
"What?"
"Whoever framed you knew exactly where your luggage was."
A cold chill ran through my body.
This wasn't an accident anymore.
Someone inside the Romano estate wanted to destroy me.
And for the first time...
I realized the bracelet was only the beginning.
