Three months passed.
The Solis family survived the scandal, but Caspian's position had changed forever. The truth about his deception spread through the underworld, and the man who once believed he could control everything finally had to face the consequences of his choices.
I never went back.
My divorce was finalized quietly, without a fight over money, property, or power.
I wanted none of it.
I only wanted my freedom.
My father's health gradually improved, and for the first time in years, I began living without constantly worrying about what someone else wanted from me.
One evening, I stood on the balcony of Zane's oceanfront estate, watching the sunset spread across the water.
Zane walked out behind me and placed a cup of tea in my hands.
"You are thinking too much again."
I smiled.
"Maybe."
He leaned against the railing beside me.
"Do you regret anything?"
I looked toward the horizon.
"I regret trusting the wrong person for too long."
I paused.
"But I do not regret meeting you."
Zane's eyes softened.
"Good."
I laughed quietly.
"That is all you have to say?"
"What else should I say?"
"Something romantic."
He considered it seriously for a moment.
"I am not good at romantic speeches."
"I noticed."
A rare smile appeared on his face.
Then he reached into his pocket.
My eyes widened when I saw the small velvet box.
"Zane..."
"Before you panic, I am not asking you to forget your past."
He opened the box.
Inside was a simple diamond ring.
"I am asking you to choose your future."
My eyes filled with tears.
"You know I am not the same woman I was before."
"I know."
"I have trust issues."
"I know."
"I may be difficult."
"I know."
I laughed through my tears.
"You really know how to make a proposal sound terrible."
He smiled.
"Then let me say it properly."
He took my hand.
"Lorelai, I do not want the woman you used to be. I want the woman standing in front of me now—the woman who survived everything and still found a reason to smile."
My heart trembled.
"Will you stay with me?"
I looked at the ring, then at the man who had stood beside me when my entire world collapsed.
"Yes."
He slipped the ring onto my finger.
For years, I had believed love meant holding on no matter how badly someone hurt you.
Now I understood.
Love was not begging someone to remember your worth.
Love was not accepting betrayal because of memories.
Love was choosing someone who chose you back.
I leaned against Zane's shoulder as the sun disappeared beyond the ocean.
The past could remain behind me.
Caspian had been my first great love, but he would not be my final chapter.
I had lost twenty years believing my story had already been written.
Now I knew better.
I was holding the pen.
And for the first time, I was writing a future that belonged entirely to me.
