Three months later, Elena stood before the elders of the Pine Ridge Pack.
Her daughter slept peacefully in her arms, completely unaware of the chaos her birth had caused.
The little girl had grown stronger every day.
Her heartbeat was steady now, and the faint silver mark on her wrist had finally appeared.
The mark belonged to the Hart bloodline.
It was proof that Elena had made the right decision.
“The transfer has been approved,” the elder announced.
“Elena Hart and her daughter are officially recognized members of Pine Ridge.”
Elena lowered her eyes.
For the first time, no one called her Luna.
No one called her Atlas’s mate.
She was simply Elena Hart.
And that was enough.
...
Far away, inside Blackwood territory, Atlas had become a completely different man.
The memorial urn remained in his private office.
He had never opened it.
He couldn't.
Every time he looked at it, his wolf reacted with the same unbearable denial.
His daughter couldn't be dead.
She couldn't have died because he had refused to answer a phone call.
She couldn't have died because he had chosen another woman over her mother.
But the medical records were there.
The hospital testimony was there.
The guards had witnessed everything.
And Elena was gone.
Atlas had searched for her for weeks.
Every trail ended at Pine Ridge.
Every request for information was rejected under pack privacy laws.
He had even gone to the border himself.
The Pine Ridge guards had stopped him before he could cross.
“You have no legal claim here.”
Those words had broken something inside him.
He had once been the most powerful Alpha in the region.
Now he couldn't even step into the territory where his former mate lived.
...
Mara watched Atlas from across the room.
She had expected grief to bring him closer to her.
Instead, it had pushed him farther away.
He no longer slept in her room.
He barely spoke to her.
He never touched their son unless necessary.
One evening, Mara finally confronted him.
“Atlas, how long are you going to punish me for what happened?”
Atlas slowly lifted his eyes.
“What happened?”
Mara swallowed.
“Elena left. Your daughter died. You can't keep blaming yourself forever.”
His expression hardened.
“I don't blame myself.”
Mara looked relieved for half a second.
Then Atlas continued.
“I blame every person who stood there and let it happen.”
Her face went pale.
“Including you?”
Atlas didn't answer.
That silence was answer enough.
...
The following morning, Atlas received an unexpected report.
A border scout had returned from Pine Ridge.
“Alpha, we found something.”
Atlas stood immediately.
“What?”
The scout placed a small document on the desk.
“The Hart bloodline registry was updated three months ago.”
Atlas stared at the page.
“Elena Hart registered a daughter.”
His heart stopped.
“A daughter?”
“Yes.”
Atlas's hands began to shake.
He read the entry once.
Then again.
The child's name was listed beneath Elena's.
The birth date matched the night Elena had gone into premature labor.
Atlas looked up slowly.
“This says she survived.”
The scout nodded.
“Apparently, the information given to Blackwood was incomplete.”
Atlas's wolf exploded awake.
For the first time in months, hope tore through him so violently that he could barely breathe.
“She's alive.”
The words left his mouth like a prayer.
“My daughter is alive.”
But the scout hesitated.
“Alpha, there's something else.”
Atlas looked at him.
“What?”
“Her paternal information was legally sealed.”
Atlas's expression changed.
The hope remained.
But now it was mixed with fear.
Because he understood exactly what that meant.
Elena had deliberately hidden the child's connection to him.
She hadn't forgotten him.
She had chosen to erase him.
...
That evening, Atlas stood alone in front of the memorial urn.
He finally understood why Elena had done it.
She hadn't wanted revenge.
She hadn't wanted him to suffer.
She had simply wanted her daughter to grow up somewhere safe.
Somewhere she would never have to wonder whether her father would choose her.
Atlas closed his eyes.
His wolf whispered the truth he had spent months avoiding.
You lost them both.
Not because someone took them from you.
Because you chose to let them go.
Atlas sank into the chair.
For the first time in his life, the Alpha of Blackwood Pack had nothing to command.
No order could bring Elena back.
No power could undo the night in the pool.
No apology could erase the moment he had chosen Mara's lie over his pregnant mate.
But he still had one thing left.
A chance to find his daughter.
And somewhere beyond the Pine Ridge border, Elena was raising the child he had once believed was dead.
She had no intention of giving him another chance.
Atlas just didn't know that yet.
