The anonymous message stayed on Stella's phone screen for several minutes. 'Stay away from Eric Chilton... or you'll regret it.' She read the words repeatedly before locking her phone. In her previous life, she would have been frightened by such a threat. But after experiencing betrayal, losing her daughter, and dying with endless regret, a simple warning no longer had the power to shake her. Whoever had sent it clearly didn't know she was no longer the same Stella Judd.
The following evening, River City's annual Charity Gala officially began at the luxurious Grand Aurora Hotel. Luxury cars lined the entrance while reporters crowded behind security barriers. Influential business leaders, celebrities, and wealthy heirs walked across the red carpet under countless flashing cameras. Everyone eagerly anticipated the appearance of the city's newest engaged couple—Eric Chilton and Stella Judd.
Inside her bedroom, Stella took one last look in the mirror. She wore a dark sapphire evening gown that perfectly complemented the platinum bracelet Eric had given her. Her makeup was elegant rather than extravagant, highlighting her natural beauty. When she walked downstairs, her parents couldn't hide their smiles. Mrs. Judd gently held her daughter's hand. 'You look beautiful, Stella. Your mother would be proud.' Stella smiled softly before hugging both of her parents.
Right on time, a black Rolls-Royce stopped outside the Judd residence. Eric stepped out wearing a perfectly tailored black tuxedo. His calm presence immediately attracted the attention of the household staff. As Stella walked toward him, Eric's usually composed expression softened slightly. 'You look stunning tonight,' he said honestly. Stella smiled. 'Thank you. You don't look too bad yourself.' Eric chuckled quietly, surprising even Mason, who had rarely seen his employer laugh.
When they arrived at the hotel, the reporters immediately became excited. Camera flashes lit up the entrance as Eric stepped out first before naturally extending his hand toward Stella. She accepted it without hesitation. The moment they appeared together, whispers spread through the crowd. Many people had expected their engagement to be nothing more than a business arrangement, yet the way Eric looked at Stella suggested genuine care and respect.
Inside the ballroom, countless guests greeted Eric respectfully. Stella remained beside him, handling every introduction with grace. Many business leaders complimented them on their engagement, while several influential women praised Stella's elegance. Eric never left her side, subtly making sure she felt comfortable throughout every conversation. His thoughtful actions didn't go unnoticed by the surrounding guests.
Across the ballroom, Noel watched everything unfold with an unreadable expression. Sophie stood beside him, quietly holding a glass of juice. She noticed Noel's eyes repeatedly drifting toward Stella and Eric. For some reason, every smile Stella gave Eric made Noel feel strangely irritated. He couldn't understand why seeing her happy bothered him so much when he had always wanted her to stop chasing him.
As the charity auction began, the host introduced several valuable artworks and rare collectibles. Eric quietly participated without showing off, placing bids only when he genuinely appreciated an item. When a vintage music box was presented, Stella admired its delicate craftsmanship. Without saying a word, Eric calmly doubled the highest bid and successfully won the auction. He turned toward Stella and smiled faintly. 'Consider it your engagement gift.' Stella looked at the music box before smiling sincerely. 'Thank you... I'll treasure it.'
Their warm interaction caught everyone's attention, especially Noel's. Before he realized what he was doing, he walked directly toward them. The lively conversations around the ballroom gradually became quieter as guests sensed something unusual was about to happen. Noel stopped only a few steps away from Stella and Eric, his eyes fixed on Stella. 'Can we talk?' he asked in a low voice. Stella calmly met his gaze before answering, 'I'm sorry, Mr. Chilton. Tonight, I'd rather stay with my fiancé.' Eric silently stood beside her, but the coldness in his eyes made it clear that he would not allow anyone to disturb her again.
