"Claire?" Nathan Bennett's voice echoed from outside the conference room.
"Why is this room locked?"
The blood drained from Claire's face.
"M-Mr. Bennett?"
She quickly straightened her suit and smoothed her hair before opening the door.
"Sir," she said with a professional smile.
"I was just handling a security issue."
Nathan frowned.
"Security issue?"
"A woman sneaked into the executive floor pretending to know you," Claire explained confidently.
"I didn't want her causing trouble during your meeting."
Nathan's expression remained unreadable.
"Where is she?"
"Inside."
"I was about to call security to escort her out."
Nathan stepped past Claire.
The moment he entered the conference room, his entire body froze.
"...Olivia?"
His voice was barely a whisper.
Olivia lay curled on the floor, her cream-colored dress soaked with soup, grease, and blood.
Her hair was a mess, and one side of her face was badly swollen.
She looked up weakly.
"Nathan..."
Her lips trembled.
"Our baby..."
The lunch containers were scattered across the room.
The medical report lay crumpled near the table.
Nathan rushed to her side.
"Olivia!"
He carefully lifted her into his arms.
"You're bleeding!"
Olivia grabbed his sleeve with trembling fingers.
"Save... our baby..."
Nathan's heart stopped.
"Baby?"
"I'm pregnant... four months..."
For a moment, he couldn't process her words.
"Pregnant?"
Olivia nodded weakly before losing consciousness.
"Olivia!"
"OLIVIA!"
Nathan looked at the blood staining his expensive suit.
His eyes slowly turned toward Claire.
"Explain."
Claire's confident smile disappeared.
"Sir... I... I thought she was..."
"Thought she was what?"
"One of those women who keep bothering you."
"She said your name so casually."
"She brought food..."
"She claimed she was family..."
"So you assaulted her?" Nathan asked coldly.
"I was protecting your reputation."
"Protecting me?"
Nathan's voice became frighteningly calm.
"Do you know who this woman is?"
Claire swallowed nervously.
"She... she isn't...?"
"She is my wife."
Silence consumed the room.
Every employee standing outside the doorway gasped.
"Mrs... Mrs. Bennett?"
Claire staggered backward.
"No... that's impossible..."
"We've been married for three years," Nathan said.
"The woman you just attacked is my wife... and the mother of my child."
Claire's knees nearly gave out.
"Sir... I didn't know..."
"You never asked."
Nathan stood, still carrying Olivia in his arms.
"Call an ambulance!" he roared.
"NOW!"
The entire executive floor erupted into chaos.
Employees rushed in every direction.
Someone called emergency services while another fetched the company doctor.
Nathan ignored everyone.
He carried Olivia toward the elevator himself.
"Stay with me," he whispered desperately.
"Please don't leave me."
As the elevator doors closed, Olivia's hand slowly slipped from his.
Nathan's heart pounded with fear.
Outside the hospital, doctors immediately wheeled Olivia into the emergency room.
"Prepare the operating theater!"
"Possible placental injury!"
"Four-month pregnancy!"
Nathan stood frozen outside the doors.
His hands were covered with his wife's blood.
Minutes later, the obstetrician walked out.
"Mr. Bennett?"
"How is she?" Nathan asked anxiously.
The doctor's expression was grave.
"Your wife suffered severe physical trauma."
"We're doing everything we can..."
"But whether we can save the baby..."
He paused.
"...depends on the next few hours."
Nathan slowly closed his eyes.
When he opened them again, the warmth was gone.
Only ice remained.
He pulled out his phone and dialed his head of security.
"Effective immediately," he said in a deadly calm voice,
"Suspend Claire Morgan."
"Freeze every company account under her name."
"Collect every security recording from today."
"No one leaves this company until I know exactly what happened."
"Because if my wife loses our child..."
His voice became terrifyingly quiet.
"Someone will answer for it."
