Liam's POV
I stared at the photograph for a long time.
Andy was smiling in it.
That same bright, innocent smile I'd seen every morning before everything was taken from him.
Underneath his photograph, someone had written one word.
"Leverage."
My hands trembled.
For years, I'd worked myself to the bone believing I was protecting my family.
I'd given up promotions.
I'd given up opportunities.
I'd accepted Gwen's coldness because I thought keeping our marriage together was what a good husband was supposed to do.
And while I was sacrificing everything, they had been turning my own family into pieces on a chessboard.
Not anymore.
I looked at the investigator.
"Where is Ethan?"
"In custody."
"And Pierce?"
"Also detained."
"Dr. Hale?"
"He's cooperating."
I nodded slowly.
"Then let's finish this."
...
Third-Person POV
The investigation moved quickly after the evidence from the flash drive was verified.
Bank records connected Ethan, Pierce, and Dr. Hale to the secret operation.
Messages proved Gwen had knowingly authorized Andy's blood transfer.
Surveillance footage showed the vehicle used in the staged accident.
Most importantly, Daniel's testimony confirmed that Andy's accident had been deliberately arranged.
The truth that Gwen had spent months denying was now impossible to hide.
Pierce eventually confessed.
He admitted that Ethan had approached him years earlier and promised him financial security in exchange for helping destroy Liam's position within the Morrison family.
Dr. Hale admitted he had falsified medical paperwork and approved the unauthorized blood transfer.
And Gwen finally admitted everything.
She had married Liam because Ethan told her it was the easiest way to gain access to the Morrison family's finances and business information.
She had fallen in love with Liam afterward.
But instead of choosing her husband and son, she kept choosing Pierce.
When Pierce needed Andy's rare blood type, Gwen convinced herself that she could sacrifice a little of Andy's safety and still save him afterward.
That decision cost Andy his life.
...
Liam's POV
Several months later, I stood in court and listened to the final judgment.
Gwen received her sentence for the crimes she had committed.
Pierce and Ethan were sentenced for their roles in the scheme.
Dr. Hale lost his medical license and was convicted for falsifying records and participating in the illegal procedure.
The court also ordered the recovery of the marital assets that had been transferred to Pierce.
The money would never bring Andy back.
Nothing could.
But at least the truth was finally on record.
After leaving the courthouse, I drove straight to the cemetery.
The new headstone stood beneath the afternoon sun.
ANDY MORRISON
Beloved Son
Forever Four Years Old
I placed a small toy car beside the flowers.
"Hey, buddy."
I sat down beside the grave.
"Dad's here."
For a while, I said nothing.
Then I pulled a folded piece of paper from my pocket.
It was Andy's old essay about his mom.
The edges were worn from how many times I'd unfolded it.
"You wanted Mom to teach you how to ride a bike," I whispered.
"I'm sorry she never got the chance."
My eyes filled with tears.
"But I'll teach you anyway."
I smiled through the pain.
"I'll remember every single thing you loved. The red toy cars. Chocolate pancakes. That ridiculous dinosaur pajamas you refused to take off."
A breeze moved through the trees.
For the first time, the silence didn't feel empty.
It felt peaceful.
...
Gwen's POV
Months later, Gwen received one final letter.
It was from Liam.
There was no anger in it.
That hurt more than hatred ever could.
"Gwen, I don't forgive what you did."
"But I won't spend the rest of my life hating you either."
"Andy deserved better from both of us."
"You chose everyone else over your own family. I spent years waiting for you to choose us."
"I finally understand that I shouldn't have had to beg."
"I hope one day you understand what you lost."
Gwen pressed the letter against her chest and began to cry.
She finally had time.
Time to think.
Time to remember.
Time to regret.
But the one person she wanted to give that time to was gone forever.
...
Liam's POV
A year later, I stood in the office of the international projects division.
The position I'd once given up for my family was finally mine.
My desk overlooked the city.
On it sat a framed photograph of Andy.
I touched the frame gently.
"I made it, buddy."
I had rebuilt my life.
Not because I'd forgotten Andy.
Because I refused to let his short life become meaningless.
I started a small foundation for families who couldn't afford emergency medical care.
Every year, on Andy's birthday, I donated to children's hospitals in his name.
And every night, before I went home, I looked at his photograph and reminded myself of one simple truth.
Love isn't measured by promises.
It isn't measured by words, money, or how long someone claims they'll stay.
It's measured by the choices they make when you need them most.
Gwen had chosen everyone else.
So I finally chose myself.
And I chose to keep living.
For Andy.
For the father I still was.
For the life my son never got to have.
I picked up the photograph and smiled.
"You'll always be my little boy."
Then I turned off the office light and walked toward the future.
This time, I didn't look back.
