Six months later.
The completed stabilization system entered production through a partnership between Preston Research Institute and Halley Group.
Instead of exclusive ownership, the technology was released under a licensing model that guaranteed affordable access for hospitals and emergency infrastructure.
It became exactly the future Daniel Jensen had imagined.
York officially retired as director and appointed Sheila to lead the institute.
Simon accepted the position of operations director after insisting someone had to stop scientists from forgetting to eat.
Thurston remained Edmond's closest friend and never stopped teasing him about the night he shattered a glass because of Sheila.
Eleanor quietly withdrew from public life.
Sheila visited her only once more.
They spoke honestly.
They did not become close.
But they stopped being enemies.
One autumn evening, Edmond asked Sheila to meet him at the airport where they had seen each other again after three years apart.
The same billboard overlooked the arrivals hall.
"Why here?" she asked.
"Because this is where I believed I'd lost you forever," Edmond replied.
"And now?"
"Now I want this place to become the place where our future begins instead."
He reached into his pocket.
This time it really was a ring.
He smiled nervously.
"Sheila Jensen... may I spend the rest of my life asking instead of deciding?"
Tears filled her eyes.
"That might be the most romantic proposal I've ever heard."
"Is that a yes?"
She laughed through her tears.
"Yes."
He slipped the ring onto her finger.
They kissed beneath the same lights that had once witnessed heartbreak.
There was no audience worth impressing.
No lies left to protect.
No ghosts demanding silence.
Only two people who had finally learned that love was strongest when built on truth instead of fear.
Later that evening, Sheila looked down at the ring, then at Edmond walking beside her.
"What are you thinking?" he asked.
She smiled.
"Still you."
He squeezed her hand.
"Still me."
They walked toward the future together.
And somehow, after everything they had survived...
they were still falling.
