Three days passed after Gracie returned from the Veil.
She stayed in the healer's chambers, refusing to return to Justin's castle.
The Bloodspring had restored her life, but it could not restore what she had lost.
Every time she closed her eyes, she remembered the coffin.
The runes.
The pain.
And Justin's voice telling her to wait.
She no longer cried.
Her tears had simply run dry.
Outside the chamber, Justin stood guard every night.
He never entered without permission.
He never demanded to see her.
He simply waited.
On the fourth morning, the council summoned them both.
The ancient hall was filled with elders.
At the center stood the Progenitor's altar.
The elder councilor raised a scroll.
"The Blood Curse can only be broken through the blood of the true hybrid heir."
Justin's expression darkened.
"My child is dead."
"Yes," the elder replied. "But the Progenitor's blessing did not disappear with her."
Gracie slowly looked up.
"What does that mean?"
"Her soul remains connected to the Bloodspring."
The hall became silent.
"If you wish to complete the blessing, Lady Gracie must return to the Bloodspring and release the child's remaining essence."
Justin immediately shook his head.
"No."
Everyone looked at him.
"She has already suffered enough. There will be no second ritual."
The elder frowned.
"Without it, the Blood Curse will continue."
"Then let it continue."
Justin's voice was firm.
"I will not sacrifice Gracie again."
Gracie stared at him.
For the first time since waking, she saw something different in his eyes.
Not obsession.
Not pride.
Regret.
The elder turned toward her.
"The choice belongs to you."
Justin immediately spoke.
"You don't have to do it."
Gracie remained silent for a long moment.
Then she walked toward the Bloodspring.
Justin followed instinctively.
She stopped at the entrance.
"Stay here."
He obeyed.
Gracie stepped into the sanctuary alone.
The Bloodspring began to glow.
A tiny heartbeat echoed through the chamber.
Gracie froze.
"Baby...?"
A small silver light appeared above the water.
It took the shape of a tiny wolf cub.
Gracie's breath caught.
She reached toward it with trembling fingers.
"Mama's here."
The little spirit pressed against her palm.
Warmth flooded through her.
For the first time since her child's death, Gracie smiled through her tears.
The spirit didn't want revenge.
It wanted peace.
Gracie whispered, "I love you."
The silver spirit dissolved into countless glowing particles.
They rose into the air and spread across the entire sanctuary.
The Bloodspring erupted with golden light.
Far beyond the castle, the ancient Blood Curse shattered.
Every vampire in the kingdom felt it.
The oppressive darkness that had haunted their bloodline for generations vanished.
The elder council fell to their knees.
Justin stood outside the sanctuary, tears silently falling from his eyes.
He had wanted power.
He had wanted the blessing.
He had wanted to save his clan.
But the woman he loved had paid the price for all of it.
When Gracie finally stepped outside, Justin approached slowly.
"Is she at peace?" he asked.
Gracie nodded.
"Yes."
Justin swallowed hard.
"Thank you."
Gracie looked at him.
"Don't thank me."
"I did it for my daughter."
Justin lowered his head.
"I know."
There was a long silence.
Then Gracie spoke.
"Justin, I won't forget what happened."
"I don't want you to."
"I won't forgive you easily either."
"I know."
"But maybe... one day, I can stop hating you."
Justin looked up.
It was the first hope she had given him.
He didn't reach for her.
He didn't ask for another chance.
He simply nodded.
"I'll wait."
Gracie turned toward the rising moon.
For the first time, she felt free.
Her child was gone, but her love had not been meaningless.
The Blood Curse was broken.
The clan was finally free.
And Justin had learned the truth far too late.
Love was never about possessing someone.
It was about protecting them when it mattered most.
Gracie walked away from the Bloodspring, leaving the past behind.
Justin watched her go.
He knew the story between them might never have the ending he wanted.
But for the first time, he was willing to accept whatever ending she chose.
And beneath the moonlight, the ancient vampire kingdom finally entered a new era.
