Evelyn Whitmore's charity luncheon was meant to repair her reputation. Instead, Scarlett turned it into the beginning of her downfall.
The event was held at a bright hotel ballroom decorated with white roses and gold chairs. Evelyn stood on stage, speaking about compassion, resilience, and supporting disabled patients. The hypocrisy was so thick Scarlett almost laughed.
She entered halfway through the speech.
Cameras turned instantly.
Evelyn faltered. Victoria went pale near the front table.
Scarlett wore a cream suit and carried a folder on her lap. Alexander did not enter with her. This was her stage.
Evelyn recovered quickly. 'Scarlett, darling, what a brave surprise.'
Scarlett smiled. 'I thought I should attend, since my medical trust helped fund your foundation.'
Whispers moved through the room.
Evelyn's smile froze. 'This is not the time.'
'It is exactly the time.'
Grace Bellamy stepped forward and handed documents to several journalists. Scarlett faced the room.
'For two years, donations made in my name and funds released for my rehabilitation were redirected through this foundation. Patients who were promised support never received it. Therapists went unpaid. Reports were falsified.'
Evelyn's face drained of color. 'These are lies.'
A woman stood from the back. She was the mother of a child whose treatment had been denied. Then another stood. Then a former foundation employee.
Scarlett had not come with accusations alone. She had come with witnesses.
Victoria rushed toward her. 'Stop this!'
Scarlett looked at her calmly. 'You should have stopped when you took the first dollar.'
Reporters shouted. Donors demanded answers. Evelyn tried to leave, but two investigators blocked her path.
Outside, Alexander waited beside the car.
Scarlett's hands trembled from the adrenaline. 'I did it.'
'Yes,' he said, pride warming his voice. 'You did.'
She looked up at him. 'Did I look afraid?'
'Terrified.'
Her smile fell.
Alexander leaned closer. 'And unstoppable.'
That night, Evelyn Whitmore's foundation collapsed. For the first time, society did not pity Scarlett.
They feared what she might reveal next.
