Chapter 2: The Broken Alpha

The heavy wooden doors closed behind the guards.

Silence settled over the Alpha's office.

For the first time in years, Jaxon was completely alone.

He remained standing in front of the window.

Outside, warriors continued their evening patrols as if nothing had happened.

The pack carried on with its daily routine.

No one knew their Luna had just abandoned them.

No one knew their Alpha's heart had been shattered.

Drax remained unusually quiet.

'Drax?' Jaxon called through their mind link.

No answer came.

A wave of panic rushed through him.

'Drax, say something.'

Several long seconds passed before the wolf finally spoke.

'I'm here.'

His voice sounded weak.

'Does it always hurt this much?'

Jaxon closed his eyes.

'I don't know.'

'I never thought we'd have to find out.'

The office door opened softly.

"Alpha?"

Beta Ethan stepped inside.

His expression immediately changed when he saw Jaxon's face.

"What happened?"

Jaxon didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he walked toward his desk and placed both hands on its wooden surface.

"Giselle rejected me."

Ethan froze.

"What?"

"She left with Alpha Jasper."

"No..."

"I accepted the rejection."

"And I banished her from Winter Moon."

The Beta stared at him in complete disbelief.

"Alpha... are you serious?"

Jaxon nodded once.

"The guards already escorted her beyond our borders."

Ethan lowered his head.

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be."

"She made her choice."

"Now we live with the consequences."

Another silence filled the room.

Finally Ethan spoke again.

"Should I inform the Council?"

"Yes."

"Tell them the Luna's position is officially vacant."

"Also let everyone know this matter is not to be discussed among the pack."

"The people have suffered enough already."

"They don't need more uncertainty."

"Yes, Alpha."

Ethan hesitated before turning to leave.

"One more thing."

"If you need someone to talk to..."

Jaxon forced a faint smile.

"Thank you."

"But not today."

The Beta quietly nodded and left.

Once the room was empty again, Jaxon slowly sat in his chair.

His body suddenly felt heavier than ever before.

The rejection had broken the mate bond.

But the memories remained.

He remembered teaching Giselle how to ride through the northern forest.

He remembered their first festival together.

He remembered promising to build her a home where she would always feel safe.

Every memory now felt like a cruel joke.

Late that evening, Jaxon walked alone through the pack grounds.

Several members greeted him respectfully.

"Good evening, Alpha."

"Good evening."

No one noticed the pain hidden behind his calm expression.

As he passed the training grounds, young warriors continued sparring under torchlight.

Their determination reminded him why he had accepted the Alpha position.

Winter Moon depended on him.

He couldn't afford to fall apart.

Near the food storage building, an elderly woman approached him.

"Alpha."

"Mrs. Eliza."

She smiled kindly.

"The children loved the extra blankets you provided."

"Thank you."

"They're the future of our pack."

"They deserve better winters than the ones we've had."

The old woman gently placed a wrinkled hand on his arm.

"Your parents would be proud of you."

Those simple words nearly broke him.

He smiled politely before continuing his walk.

The moon hung high above the forest.

Its silver light covered the entire territory.

Jaxon eventually reached the hill overlooking Winter Moon.

It had always been his favorite place.

Years ago, he had brought Giselle here to watch the stars.

Tonight, the hill felt empty.

'She's gone,' Drax whispered.

'Yes.'

'Do you hate her?'

Jaxon remained silent for a long time.

Finally he answered.

'No.'

'I hate what she became.'

Drax sighed sadly.

'Will we ever trust another mate?'

'No.'

His answer came without hesitation.

'Never again.'

Back inside the packhouse, the Council had already gathered.

Several elders looked concerned.

"Is the rumor true?" one elder asked.

"Yes," Jaxon replied.

"Giselle has left Winter Moon permanently."

The room fell silent.

"What will happen now?"

"Nothing changes," Jaxon said firmly.

"Our rebuilding efforts continue."

"Winter Moon has survived famine."

"We've survived corrupt leadership."

"We'll survive this too."

"But Alpha... you'll eventually need another Luna."

"No."

"The subject is closed."

The authority in his voice left no room for argument.

One by one, the elders lowered their heads.

"As you wish, Alpha."

Hours later, Jaxon stood alone on the balcony outside his room.

A cold breeze carried the scent of pine through the night.

The mate bond was gone.

Yet his chest still ached.

Not from betrayal anymore.

From loss.

'We're still alive,' Drax said quietly.

'Barely.'

'Then we keep moving.'

Jaxon looked toward the endless forest stretching beyond Winter Moon.

Somewhere beyond those trees was Bloodlust Pack.

Giselle had already chosen another life.

He wondered if she was happy.

He wondered if she would ever think about him again.

Then he shook the thoughts away.

They no longer mattered.

His duty came first.

His people came first.

Love had made him vulnerable once.

It would never happen again.

Under the light of the full moon, Alpha Jaxon Docker made a silent promise.

He would rebuild Winter Moon into the strongest pack in the Eastern Region.

He would protect every member of his family.

He would never allow emotions to cloud his judgment again.

And if the Moon Goddess ever tried to give him another mate...

He would reject fate itself.
