The helicopter disappeared into the darkness, leaving an uneasy silence behind.
Broken glass covered the library floor while security guards searched every corner of the estate.
Achilles stood beside the shattered window, his hand tightly gripping the encrypted flash drive.
"No one leaves this mansion until we know it's secure," he ordered.
"Yes, sir," Marcus replied.
Within minutes, the Hutton Estate was completely surrounded by Achilles' private security.
Emerald looked at the flash drive resting in his hand.
"Everything started because of that tiny device," she murmured.
"Not the device," Achilles corrected.
"The truth hidden inside it."
Marcus connected the flash drive to a secured laptop in the study.
A password request immediately appeared.
"Encrypted," Marcus said.
"Military-grade protection."
"Can you open it?" Richard asked.
"Eventually."
"But it may take hours."
Emerald stared at the screen.
Then something suddenly came to her mind.
"Wait..."
"Grandfather always ended our chess games the same way."
"He would say, 'Every queen remembers her first move.'"
Achilles looked at her.
"Your first move?"
She smiled faintly.
"When I was little, he taught me that the queen's greatest strength wasn't power—it was freedom."
"He made me remember one opening move over and over again."
"Try entering it," Achilles suggested.
Marcus typed the sequence exactly as Emerald remembered it.
The screen froze for a moment.
Then the folder unlocked.
"It worked," Marcus whispered.
Several confidential files appeared.
Financial records.
Government documents.
Secret contracts.
Names of influential businessmen.
Politicians.
Judges.
Every one of them connected to The Kings.
"My God," Richard breathed.
"This is enough to destroy the entire organization."
"There's another file," Marcus announced.
"It's labeled Founder."
He opened it.
A single photograph filled the screen.
Everyone stared in disbelief.
"No..." Emerald whispered.
The founder of The Kings wasn't Victor Kane.
It was someone they all knew.
Someone they trusted.
"Councilman Edward Hutton," Marcus read.
Richard's older brother.
Emerald's uncle.
"Impossible," Richard said.
"Edward loved this family."
"Apparently not enough," Achilles replied coldly.
"Everything makes sense now."
"He always knew where Emerald was."
"He knew about the diary."
"He knew about Project Rosebud."
Marcus opened the final document.
"There are transaction records proving Edward ordered the attack that killed Mr. Valencian."
Achilles remained perfectly still.
His father's murder.
The truth had finally been uncovered.
Emerald gently touched his arm.
"Ace..."
He closed his eyes.
"For seven years I wanted revenge."
"Now I finally know who deserves it."
Marcus' phone rang.
"Sir!"
"Edward Hutton is attempting to leave the country."
"Private airport."
"He's boarding a helicopter."
Achilles immediately stood.
"Prepare the convoy."
"We're ending this tonight."
Twenty minutes later...
The private airfield was surrounded by security vehicles.
Edward stood beside his helicopter, smiling as though he had expected them.
"Achilles," he greeted calmly.
"I wondered how long it would take."
"It's over," Achilles said.
"You murdered my father."
"You hunted Emerald for years."
"You lost."
Edward laughed.
"Lost?"
"The game was over long before you understood the rules."
"Give me the flash drive."
"Never."
"Then she'll die."
Edward pulled out a hidden pistol and aimed it directly at Emerald.
Everything happened within seconds.
"Emerald!" Achilles shouted.
Without hesitation, he threw himself in front of her.
Bang!
The bullet struck Achilles in the shoulder.
He stumbled but remained standing.
"Ace!" Emerald screamed.
Marcus' team immediately returned fire.
Edward attempted to escape toward the helicopter.
Before he could climb inside, Richard stepped into his path.
"Enough," Richard said.
"Brother... don't do this," Edward replied.
"You chose this path years ago."
"I choose my daughter."
Richard lowered Edward's weapon with one swift movement.
Police officers surrounded the runway.
"Edward Hutton," the lead officer announced.
"You are under arrest for conspiracy, murder, kidnapping, and organized criminal activity."
Edward slowly raised his hands.
As officers placed him in handcuffs, he looked directly at Emerald.
"Your grandfather was smarter than all of us," he admitted.
"He always knew someone would finish his game."
He smiled bitterly.
"Checkmate."
Hours later...
Doctors finished treating Achilles' shoulder.
The injury wasn't life-threatening.
Emerald sat quietly beside his hospital bed.
"You almost got yourself killed," she whispered.
"I'd do it again," Achilles replied.
"Every single time."
Tears filled Emerald's eyes.
"Why?"
Achilles reached for her hand.
"Because I stopped pretending years ago."
"I've loved you since before you left Rose Hills."
"I pushed you away because I thought keeping my distance would keep you safe."
"I was wrong."
Emerald smiled through her tears.
"You idiot."
"You made me wait seven years."
He laughed softly.
"I know."
"Can you forgive me?"
Instead of answering, Emerald leaned forward and kissed him gently.
When they pulled apart, she rested her forehead against his.
"Only if you promise never to leave me again."
"Never," Achilles whispered.
"Not in this lifetime."
Outside the hospital window, the first rays of sunrise painted the sky.
The long game of betrayal, secrets, and heartbreak had finally come to an end.
For the first time in seven years, Rosebud had found her way home.
And this time, her knight never intended to let her go again.
