The prosecutor's investigation moved faster than any of us expected.
By the following morning, the Bellamy family trust had been frozen pending a full financial review.
Celeste's accounts were also placed under restriction.
Adrian was ordered to surrender his electronic devices and remain available for questioning.
Tessa spent most of the morning with Graham.
They were no longer pretending that nothing had changed.
They were finally learning how to become a family without Celeste's lies between them.
I returned to the hotel and found Owen sitting at the small desk, drawing with his green dinosaur beside him.
He looked up when I entered.
“Mom, are we going home soon?”
I smiled.
“Yes.”
He studied my face.
“Is Daddy coming?”
I sat beside him.
“Daddy won't be living with us anymore.”
Owen was quiet for a moment.
Then he nodded.
“Because of the bad birthday party?”
“Because adults made choices that hurt people.”
He looked down at his drawing.
“Was I bad?”
My heart broke.
I pulled him into my arms.
“Never. None of this was your fault.”
He hugged me tightly.
For the first time since the livestream, his shoulders relaxed.
That afternoon, Hart called.
“Nora, the court approved the temporary custody arrangement.”
I closed my eyes in relief.
“And the divorce?”
“The process can move forward. Adrian isn't contesting your request for primary custody.”
I wasn't surprised.
After everything that had happened, there was nothing left for him to fight for.
Then Hart added, “There's something else.”
“What?”
“Adrian has agreed to cooperate with the investigation.”
I was silent.
“He's giving prosecutors access to the remaining financial records.”
“Why now?”
Hart sighed.
“Because Celeste told him that if she went down, she would make sure he went down with her.”
I understood.
Adrian wasn't suddenly brave.
He was finally protecting himself.
Still, his cooperation could help recover the money that had been hidden for years.
That evening, Graham asked to meet me privately.
We sat across from each other in a quiet restaurant.
“I owe you an apology,” he said.
I shook my head.
“You don't owe me one for Celeste's actions.”
“I do for believing her for thirty-two years.”
He looked exhausted.
“I should have questioned the documents. I should have protected Marcus. And I should have protected Owen when that fake report appeared.”
I looked at him.
“What matters is what you do now.”
He nodded.
“The Bellamy trust is being rebuilt under independent supervision. Owen's inheritance will be protected. Tessa's original share will be restored.”
“Good.”
Graham hesitated.
“And I want to make sure you and Owen are protected too.”
I understood what he meant.
“We don't need another family arrangement.”
He smiled sadly.
“I know.”
He reached across the table and placed a folder in front of me.
Inside was the final settlement proposal.
My marital property was being divided fairly.
There was no waiver.
No hidden condition.
No demand that I surrender Owen's rights.
For the first time, a Bellamy document had been placed in front of me without a trap hidden inside it.
I signed only after Hart reviewed everything.
The divorce hearing was scheduled for the following week.
That night, I received one final message from Adrian.
“I know I don't deserve forgiveness. I'm sorry I let them use Owen.”
I stared at the screen for a long time.
Then I typed one sentence.
“Don't apologize to me. Spend the rest of your life making sure you never hurt him again.”
I blocked his number.
The next morning, I took Owen home.
He ran through the doorway and dropped his dinosaur on the couch.
“We're home!”
I stood in the doorway for a moment.
The house looked exactly the same.
But I wasn't the same woman who had entered that birthday dinner.
I had gone back into the past expecting another chance to defend myself.
Instead, I had learned that I didn't need to defend myself against a lie.
I only needed to expose it.
There was one final hearing left.
After that, the Bellamy name would no longer control my life.
And for the first time, I was ready to walk into the future without looking back.
