The day before the manuscript's numbered Chapter 192 was completely ordinary.
That made everyone nervous.
Freya went to the library site.
Louis attended meetings at Northstar.
Derek pretended not to check his phone every thirty seconds.
Security teams monitored systems without changing normal operations unnecessarily.
Vale remained under investigation.
The cyber contractor's testimony was being verified.
No new threat appeared.
Freya returned home at seven.
Louis was already there.
"You're early."
"So are you."
Neither admitted why.
They ate dinner.
Rule six.
Dinner was still at seven.
Afterward, Freya opened her bookstore manuscript and reviewed edits.
Louis attempted to read over her shoulder.
She blocked the screen.
"Still forbidden."
"If we die tomorrow, I'll never know the ending."
Freya stared at him.
"That is an absolutely terrible joke."
"Agreed."
He apologized.
They both laughed anyway, partly from nerves.
At ten, Derek called.
All Northstar sites normal.
At eleven, another update.
Normal.
Freya refused a midnight update.
"If something happens, call. Otherwise sleep."
Derek sounded grateful.
In bed, Freya could not sleep.
Louis could not either.
Finally she said, "This is stupid."
"Yes."
"A chapter number isn't a date."
"Correct."
"We don't even know whether tomorrow corresponds to 192."
"Correct."
"Then why are we awake?"
Louis turned toward her.
"Because we're human."
Fair.
Freya thought about Adrian's models.
People did not need to believe a prediction completely for it to affect them.
A small possibility was enough.
That was why transparent prediction still carried power.
She got out of bed.
Louis followed.
They went downstairs and made tea.
At midnight, nothing happened.
Freya raised her mug.
"Congratulations. We survived a number changing."
Louis touched his mug to hers.
They finally slept.
At 4:17 a.m., Freya's phone rang.
She woke instantly.
Derek.
Louis answered on speaker.
There had been an incident at Northstar's original headquarters.
Freya's heart dropped.
"Fire?"
"No."
Derek sounded confused.
"The old Stone Holdings sign fell off the building."
Silence.
"What?"
A mounting bracket had failed during high wind.
The large metal sign crashed onto an empty section of roof.
No injuries.
Minimal damage.
But the fall exposed something behind the sign.
A sealed maintenance cavity.
Inside it, workers found an old fireproof document box.
The box carried the Stone family crest.
And a handwritten label.
FOR LOUIS, WHEN NORTHSTAR BURNS.
Freya and Louis stared at each other.
Apparently Chapter 192 had arrived with a very different kind of fire.
Before returning to bed, Freya deliberately put both phones face down. She refused to spend the remaining night staring at notifications. If a real emergency occurred, the ringtone would wake them. Anticipating one every minute would not make anyone safer.
Freya recorded the facts separately from her assumptions and continued with the next practical step. That habit had become one of the strongest protections she possessed. A dramatic explanation could wait; evidence could not. Louis understood the difference, and together they refused to let uncertainty turn ordinary decisions into reactions to a story neither of them had chosen.
