Two months later.

The city looked different from the top floor of Erickson Tower.

The building now carried June's family name once again.

A name that had nearly been erased.

A name she had fought to reclaim.

Morning sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of her office.

Below, Manhattan buzzed with life.

Above, June finally felt peace.

Her phone buzzed softly.

"Miss Erickson, the board meeting starts in ten minutes," her assistant informed her.

"Thank you, Emily."

June ended the call and looked around her office.

The walls displayed awards she had hidden for years.

Scientific achievements.

Patents.

Innovation honors.

None of them belonged to June Compton.

They belonged to June Erickson.

The woman she had almost forgotten.

A knock sounded at the door.

"Come in."

Vera entered carrying coffee.

"You know, normal billionaires take vacations after destroying half of New York's elite."

June laughed.

"I'll schedule one eventually."

"You said that last month."

"And the month before."

"And the month before that."

"Fine," June smiled.

"Maybe I work too much."

"Maybe?"

Both women laughed.

The sound felt natural.

Easy.

Nothing like the forced smiles June used to wear during her marriage.

Her phone buzzed again.

This time it was a news alert.

"Richard Erickson Accepts Plea Agreement."

"William Compton Expected To Testify."

Vera glanced at the headline.

"How do you feel?"

June thought carefully before answering.

"Relieved."

"Not happy?"

"No."

"Justice isn't supposed to make you happy."

"It's supposed to make things right."

Later that afternoon, June entered a packed courtroom.

The final hearings had become national news.

Reporters filled every available seat.

Richard Erickson looked years older than he had only months ago.

William Compton looked worse.

Both men sat quietly as prosecutors detailed years of corruption.

Bribery.

Fraud.

Conspiracy.

Murder cover-ups.

The truth was finally public.

Nothing could hide it anymore.

When the proceedings ended, reporters rushed outside.

Questions flew in every direction.

"Miss Erickson!"

"Do you feel vindicated?"

"What happens next?"

"Any comment regarding the Compton family?"

June paused.

Hundreds of cameras focused on her.

"My parents deserved justice," she said.

"Today they received it."

"As for everything else..."

She smiled softly.

"I'm moving forward."

That evening, June visited the cemetery.

For the first time in years, she came without anger.

Without questions.

Without guilt.

The sun was setting when she placed fresh flowers beside her parents' graves.

"It's over," she whispered.

"I finally know the truth."

"And I finally know who I am."

A gentle breeze moved through the trees.

For a moment, she felt lighter.

As though a burden she carried for more than a decade had finally disappeared.

When she returned to the city, a surprise awaited her.

The annual Global Innovation Awards ceremony.

This year, June was receiving the highest honor.

The Lifetime Innovation Medal.

The same award Alycia once dreamed of winning.

This time, it belonged to its rightful owner.

The audience rose in a standing ovation as June stepped onto the stage.

Applause echoed throughout the hall.

Not because of the scandal.

Not because of the lawsuits.

Not because of the revenge.

Because of her work.

Her talent.

Her achievements.

For the first time, she was being recognized for who she truly was.

"This award belongs to everyone who refused to let the truth disappear," June said during her acceptance speech.

"And to my parents, who taught me that integrity matters more than success."

The audience erupted into applause once again.

Later that night, as she stood on the balcony of her penthouse, Vera joined her.

"You did it," Vera said.

"You got everything back."

June looked out over the city lights.

"Not everything."

"What do you mean?"

"I can't get my parents back."

"I can't get my baby back."

"I can't get those years back."

Vera's expression softened.

"No."

"But you got yourself back."

June smiled.

A real smile.

The kind she hadn't worn in years.

"Yeah," she said quietly.

"I did."

The woman who had once bled alone on a Persian rug was gone.

The woman who survived stood in her place.

Stronger.

Wiser.

Free.

And for the first time in a very long time, her future looked brighter than her past.

You finished
