The words echoed through the cemetery office.
"Richard Sterling took Alexander."
For several seconds, no one moved.
I stared at Vincent, hoping I had misunderstood.
"Richard... kidnapped his own son?"
Vincent nodded grimly.
"Our security team reviewed every camera at the hospital."
"Alexander walked out willingly at first."
"When he realized who was waiting for him, he tried to resist."
"The cameras went black thirty seconds later."
"Raven," Lucas muttered.
"They're cleaning up every loose end."
I looked down at my mother's letter.
Her final warning suddenly carried a terrifying weight.
The enemy wasn't hiding anymore.
They were making their final move.
"Where would Richard take him?" I asked.
Vincent spread several maps across the table.
"There are only three Sterling properties within driving distance."
"The Boston mansion."
"A private airfield."
"And an abandoned shipyard outside Salem."
"Which one?"
Lucas opened his laptop.
"Alexander's phone transmitted one final signal before it was destroyed."
"Where?"
"The shipyard."
Vincent immediately stood.
"We're leaving."
"No police," I said.
"If Raven has people everywhere, they'll know before we arrive."
"Agreed," Vincent replied.
"Only our trusted team."
Two hours later, under the cover of darkness, our convoy stopped outside the abandoned harbor.
Rusted cargo containers stretched endlessly across the waterfront.
The ocean waves crashed against the old docks.
Everything looked deserted.
"Too quiet," Lucas whispered.
Vincent nodded.
"Stay alert."
We moved between the containers, using the shadows for cover.
Suddenly, a voice echoed through loudspeakers.
"Welcome, Sophia."
"We've been expecting you."
Floodlights exploded to life.
The entire shipyard was illuminated.
Armed men surrounded us from every direction.
At the center stood Richard Sterling.
Elegant as ever in a charcoal suit.
Beside him, tied to a chair, sat Alexander.
His face was bruised, but he was conscious.
"Father... don't listen to him!" Alexander shouted.
Richard smiled calmly.
"Still calling me Father after all these years."
"How touching."
"Let him go," Vincent demanded.
"Of course," Richard replied.
"After we finish our conversation."
He looked directly at me.
"Sophia, do you know why your mother died?"
"Because of you."
"No."
"Because she refused to join me."
I felt anger boiling inside me.
"She exposed Raven."
"She tried."
"She almost succeeded."
"But Eleanor underestimated how far people would go to protect power."
"You're insane," I whispered.
Richard laughed softly.
"Power always sounds insane to those who don't possess it."
"Why me?"
"Because you're Eleanor's daughter."
"The only person who can access the Romano-Sterling inheritance files."
"The music box..." I whispered.
Richard smiled.
"Exactly."
"Your mother hid the master key inside it."
"A key worth billions and enough evidence to destroy Raven forever."
"Where is it?"
"I don't know."
"But you do."
"Deep down, you've always known."
Suddenly, memories flooded my mind.
My mother's lullaby.
The silver music box.
The words she repeated every birthday.
"When you're lost, listen to the melody."
I closed my eyes.
The melody.
It wasn't just a song.
It was a code.
"The cemetery," I whispered.
"No," Richard corrected.
"Too late."
"We already searched there years ago."
Then it hit me.
"Not the cemetery."
"The old chapel beside it."
"The bell tower."
Richard's smile disappeared.
For the first time, I had surprised him.
"Impossible," he muttered.
"Mother always made me count the bells before we left."
"Seven... then four... then one."
"It's a combination."
"There's a hidden compartment."
Richard's expression darkened.
"Kill them," he ordered.
Chaos erupted.
Gunfire echoed across the shipyard.
Vincent pushed me behind a steel container while his team returned fire.
Lucas rushed toward Alexander.
A guard blocked his path.
The two struggled violently.
Meanwhile, Vincent fought his way toward Richard.
"This ends tonight!" Vincent shouted.
Richard drew his own weapon.
"You're too late."
They exchanged shots across the open dock.
I spotted Alexander still tied to the chair.
Ignoring Vincent's warning, I sprinted toward him.
"Sophia, don't!"
Bullets struck the ground around me.
I reached Alexander just in time.
"Hold still."
Using a knife from one of the fallen guards, I cut the ropes.
"Can you walk?"
"Barely."
"That's enough."
Together we stumbled behind cover.
Across the dock, Vincent finally cornered Richard.
"It's over," Vincent said.
"Drop the gun."
Richard smiled strangely.
"You still don't understand."
"Understand what?"
"Raven was never one man."
"It's an organization."
"Kill me... and another Raven will simply take my place."
"Maybe," Vincent replied.
"But you'll never hurt anyone again."
Richard slowly lowered his weapon.
Police sirens echoed in the distance.
Lucas had secretly called federal agents the moment the confrontation began.
Within minutes, the harbor was surrounded.
Richard Sterling was placed in handcuffs.
As officers escorted him away, he looked back at me one final time.
"Find the music box, Sophia."
"Only then will you know the whole truth about your mother."
He disappeared into the police vehicle.
The nightmare was finally ending.
Vincent walked toward me.
For a long moment, neither of us spoke.
Then he quietly reached into his pocket.
He pulled out a small velvet box.
I looked at him in surprise.
"Sophia," he said softly.
"I know I don't deserve another chance."
"I know trust has to be earned."
"But if you'll let me spend the rest of my life proving myself..."
He slowly knelt on one knee.
"Will you marry me?"
Tears filled my eyes as every painful memory and every beautiful moment flashed through my mind.
Before I could answer...
Church bells echoed across the harbor.
Seven.
Then four.
Then one.
The exact melody my mother had taught me.
Somewhere nearby...
The music box was still waiting to be found.
