Atlas remained in the empty hall until the candles burned low.
The medical file was still open before him.
Pine Ridge Pack.
Elena was there.
And so was his daughter.
His daughter was alive.
For the first time since the hospital had told him the pup was dead, Atlas allowed himself to believe it.
His wolf was no longer raging.
It was trembling.
Not from fear.
From hope.
Atlas reached for his phone.
His fingers hovered over the screen before he finally called the Pine Ridge Alpha.
The call was answered after several rings.
“Atlas.”
The voice on the other end was cold.
Atlas swallowed.
“I know where Elena is.”
Silence followed.
“Then you already know she doesn't want you there.”
Atlas closed his eyes.
“I know.”
“So why are you calling me?”
“Because I want to see my daughter.”
The silence became heavier.
“Your daughter?”
Atlas tightened his grip on the phone.
“Elena gave birth to a girl. The medical records prove she survived.”
The Pine Ridge Alpha's voice hardened.
“You don't get to call her your daughter now.”
Atlas lowered his head.
He knew he had no right to argue.
“You're right.”
That answer seemed to surprise the other man.
Atlas continued.
“I don't want to take her from Elena. I don't want to claim her. I only want the chance to meet her.”
“And what happens when your Alpha instincts tell you to take her back?”
Atlas looked at the bloodline records on the table.
“Then I will fight those instincts.”
“And if Elena refuses?”
Atlas was silent for several seconds.
“Then I'll accept it.”
The call ended shortly afterward.
Atlas remained standing beside the table.
For years, he had believed love meant refusing to let Elena leave.
Now he understood that love sometimes meant standing outside the door and waiting for permission to enter.
...
The next morning, Elena was sitting in the garden with Lily.
The little girl was chasing butterflies between the flowers.
Elena smiled when Lily suddenly stopped and pointed toward the gate.
“Mama.”
Elena looked up.
A Pine Ridge guard was approaching.
He stopped a respectful distance away.
“Luna, there is a message for you.”
Elena's expression changed when she saw the sealed letter.
She opened it slowly.
There were only a few lines.
Atlas had asked permission to meet Lily.
He had agreed to every condition Pine Ridge placed on him.
No claim over Elena.
No claim over Lily.
No interference with Pine Ridge.
No demand for custody.
No use of Alpha authority.
Elena read the letter twice.
Lily tugged at her sleeve.
“Who is it from?”
Elena folded the letter.
“Atlas.”
Lily's eyes brightened.
“Daddy?”
Elena's heart tightened.
She looked at her daughter for a long moment.
Then she looked toward the distant mountains.
Atlas had hurt her in ways she would never forget.
But Lily was not responsible for his mistakes.
And she deserved the chance to make her own decision about him.
Elena took a slow breath.
“If you want to see him, you can.”
Lily smiled immediately.
“Really?”
Elena nodded.
“But there will be rules.”
Lily listened carefully.
“Daddy has to follow them?”
“Yes.”
Lily thought for a moment.
Then she nodded seriously.
“Okay.”
...
Three days later, Atlas arrived at Pine Ridge.
He came alone.
No guards.
No official escort.
No Alpha entourage.
He wore simple dark clothes instead of his ceremonial uniform.
When Elena saw him standing beyond the garden gate, she noticed something she had never seen before.
He looked nervous.
Atlas had once walked into every room as if the entire world belonged to him.
Now he stood outside Elena's home waiting for permission to take a single step forward.
Elena opened the gate.
“You can come in.”
Atlas nodded.
He entered slowly.
Lily was hiding behind Elena's skirt.
Atlas stopped several feet away.
He didn't call her name.
He didn't reach for her.
He simply waited.
Lily peeked around Elena.
Their eyes met.
Atlas's wolf recognized her immediately.
His chest tightened.
But this time, he forced himself to remain still.
Lily took one small step forward.
Then another.
Finally, she looked up at Elena.
“Mama, can I say hello?”
Elena nodded.
Lily walked toward Atlas.
Atlas lowered himself onto one knee.
“Hello, Lily.”
The little girl studied his face.
“You look sad.”
Atlas gave a faint smile.
“I was.”
“Are you still sad?”
He glanced at Elena before answering.
“A little.”
Lily thought about that.
Then she held out her hand.
Atlas stared at it for a moment before gently taking it.
His wolf went completely silent.
Not because the bond was gone.
Because, for once, Atlas understood that this tiny hand wasn't something he owned.
It was something he had been trusted to hold.
