Atlas stood alone in the naming hall long after everyone else had left.
The memorial urn rested on the table before him, untouched.
He had spent three years believing that becoming Alpha had made him strong enough to survive anything.
But nothing had prepared him for the emptiness inside his chest.
His wolf refused to accept the truth.
She is alive.
The thought came again, fierce and undeniable.
Atlas clenched his fists.
“You have no proof,” he whispered.
His wolf answered with a growl that shook through his entire body.
Then the doors opened.
One of the older physicians entered slowly, carrying a sealed medical file.
Atlas turned sharply.
“What is it?”
The physician hesitated before placing the file on the table.
“There is something you were never told about that night.”
Atlas stared at him.
“What are you talking about?”
“The records were altered after Elena left the hospital.”
Atlas’s blood ran cold.
“Altered how?”
The physician opened the file and pointed to a page.
“The original emergency report does not say that the pup died.”
For several seconds, Atlas could not breathe.
“Then what does it say?”
“It says the pup was resuscitated successfully.”
Atlas’s chair fell backward as he stumbled away from the table.
“No...”
The physician continued quietly.
“There is more. The baby’s bloodline was registered under the Hart name before the official death notice was submitted.”
Atlas looked at him as if the world had stopped turning.
“Elena knew,” he whispered.
“Yes.”
His wolf surged violently beneath his skin.
She saved their daughter from him.
Atlas covered his face with both hands.
For the first time, he understood the cruelty of the lie.
Elena had not wanted revenge.
She had wanted distance.
She had wanted her child to live without ever knowing the man who had nearly destroyed them.
And Atlas had given her every reason to believe she was right.
The physician placed another document on the table.
“There is one final record.”
Atlas slowly looked up.
“What record?”
“The transfer authorization.”
His heart slammed against his ribs.
“Where was she transferred?”
The physician met his eyes.
“Pine Ridge Pack.”
Atlas went completely still.
Pine Ridge.
A place outside Blackwood territory, protected by an Alpha who had no reason to trust him.
A place where Elena could disappear.
A place where his daughter could grow up knowing another man as the protector of her family.
Atlas picked up the document with trembling hands.
At the bottom was Elena’s signature.
Beneath it was a single handwritten sentence.
“My daughter will never belong to a man who chose someone else over us.”
Atlas closed his eyes.
The words cut deeper than any blade.
He had spent years believing Elena had abandoned him.
Now he finally understood.
She had not abandoned him.
She had escaped him.
And if he wanted even the smallest chance to see his daughter, he would have to face the consequences of every choice he had made.
