Five months later...
The Hill mansion had changed completely.
The once quiet home was now filled with tiny baby clothes, toys, and nursery furniture.
Shaun had personally supervised every detail of the baby's room.
"Mr. Hill," Hadley said helplessly.
"You've rejected twelve different cribs already."
"They're not safe enough."
"They're all certified by international safety standards."
"Find better ones."
Hadley sighed.
"Yes, sir."
Watching the conversation, Catherine couldn't stop laughing.
"You're going to spoil this baby before they're even born."
"That's the idea," Shaun answered seriously.
"I've waited long enough."
As Catherine's pregnancy progressed, Shaun became even more protective.
Every morning, he personally prepared breakfast.
Every evening, he insisted on taking walks with her through the garden.
Whenever she worked too long, he quietly closed her laptop.
"Mr. Hill," Catherine complained one afternoon.
"I'm still the president of my company."
"And you're also the mother of my child."
"That job comes first."
"You're impossible."
"I've been called worse."
One weekend, Freya visited the mansion carrying several shopping bags.
"Future aunt coming through!" she announced proudly.
"Look what I bought!"
Inside were dozens of tiny baby outfits.
"Freya..." Catherine laughed.
"The baby won't need fifty pairs of pajamas."
"You never know."
"What if they change clothes every hour?"
"That's not how babies work," Shaun replied calmly.
"How would you know?"
"I read six parenting books this week."
Freya stared at him.
"You're actually studying to become a father?"
"Of course."
"Being a husband doesn't automatically make someone a good parent."
"You have to learn."
Catherine looked at him with admiration.
Every single day...
He continued giving her new reasons to love him.
A few days later, the hospital scheduled Catherine's routine ultrasound.
As the doctor moved the scanner gently across her stomach, a tiny heartbeat echoed through the room.
"There it is," the doctor smiled.
"A perfectly healthy baby."
Shaun stared silently at the monitor.
For the first time...
He saw his child.
A tiny hand moved across the screen.
His eyes instantly became moist.
"Would you like to know the baby's gender?" the doctor asked.
Shaun immediately looked toward Catherine.
"It's your decision."
She smiled softly.
"Let's keep it a surprise."
"We'll love our baby either way."
"Agreed."
That evening, they sat together in the nursery.
Moonlight filtered through the large windows.
The rocking chair gently moved back and forth as Catherine rested comfortably.
"What are you thinking about?" Shaun asked.
"The future."
"I'm wondering what kind of parent I'll become."
Shaun reached for her hand.
"You'll be an amazing mother."
"How can you be so sure?"
"Because the woman who never stopped loving others..."
"Will naturally know how to love her child."
She smiled.
"And what about you?"
"You'll probably become the strict parent."
"Impossible."
"Really?"
"Our child will have you for discipline."
"I'll be responsible for spoiling them."
"I knew it," Catherine laughed.
"Poor child won't stand a chance."
Suddenly...
She felt a tiny kick.
"Shaun..."
"The baby moved."
He carefully placed his hand over her stomach.
Another small kick answered him.
"Hello there," he whispered.
"Daddy's here."
"Just grow up healthy."
"That's all we'll ever ask from you."
Catherine quietly leaned against him.
Years ago...
She had believed love meant fighting for someone who kept walking away.
Now she understood.
Real love...
Stayed.
Protected.
Listened.
And chose you every single day.
Looking at Shaun beside her, she realized something.
Marrying him hadn't simply changed her future.
It had saved her life.
Outside, the first snow of winter began falling gently.
Inside the warm nursery, surrounded by hope and laughter, the Hill family waited patiently...
For the newest member of their little world.
