The atmosphere outside the operating room grew unbearably heavy.
Mom sat on the cold floor, clutching the medical records to her chest while tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
Dad remained motionless, staring blankly at the signature that proved Zora had saved his life five years ago.
Simon stood against the wall as if all the strength had left his body.
Only Laila continued wiping away her tears, but anxiety had already replaced the confidence on her face.
"Maybe... maybe the hospital mixed up the records," she whispered.
No one answered her.
At that moment, one of the pack's healers approached with a small storage box.
"These belongings were collected from Miss Zora before surgery," he said quietly.
Simon accepted the box with trembling hands.
Inside were only a few simple items.
A faded bracelet.
A cracked phone.
A worn-out notebook.
And a small dried belladonna flower carefully pressed between two pages.
"What's this?" Mom asked softly.
Simon slowly opened the notebook.
The first page contained neat handwriting.
"If someone is reading this, I may already be gone."
Everyone froze.
Simon's fingers trembled as he continued reading aloud.
"I don't know whether anyone will care after I'm gone, but I still want to leave these words behind."
"The wolfsbane poison has spread too far. Healer Petra told me I only have a few days left."
"I'm not afraid of dying."
"I'm only afraid that Grandma's cross necklace will disappear with me."
Mom covered her mouth as tears spilled down her cheeks.
Simon kept reading.
"I know Simon loves Laila now. That's alright. Love can't be forced."
"I know Mom and Dad believe Laila deserves everything more than I do."
"That's alright too. I've already gotten used to it."
"If giving her my kidney can make everyone happy, then maybe my life still has some value."
Dad suddenly buried his face in his hands.
His shoulders shook violently.
"I... I never knew..."
Simon continued reading through blurred vision.
"Five years ago, I donated my kidney to Dad."
"I asked the healer not to tell anyone because I didn't want Dad to feel guilty."
"I hoped that one day my family would simply love me a little more."
"But I guess some wishes never come true."
The notebook became stained with Simon's tears.
He could barely continue.
"If there's another life... I hope I won't be born into this family again."
"I hope I won't meet Simon again either."
"Then perhaps... I'll finally learn what it feels like to be loved."
The hallway fell into complete silence.
Even the healers lowered their heads.
Mom suddenly broke down completely.
"Zora... Mom is sorry... Mom is so sorry..."
Dad punched the wall repeatedly until blood trickled from his knuckles.
"I called her selfish... I called my own savior selfish..."
Simon dropped to his knees beside the notebook.
He hugged it tightly against his chest, sobbing like a broken child.
"Zora... why didn't you hate me? Why were you still thinking about my happiness?"
Standing beside them, I quietly watched everything.
For years, I had dreamed that someone would finally read my heart.
Now they were reading every word.
But the girl who had written them could never answer them again.
