The first rays of dawn spread across Hollow Peak as preparations for the journey began.
Royal guards loaded supplies while Marcus inspected every weapon personally.
No one underestimated the danger waiting ahead.
If Kael reached the Crown of Dawn first, the balance of the world would tip toward darkness.
Inside the underground sanctuary, Evelyn stood before the Heart Crystal.
The silver pendant around her neck pulsed gently.
"Are you certain you're ready?" Elias asked.
She nodded.
"I don't have a choice anymore."
"Every answer I'm searching for lies ahead."
"Remember," the Oracle warned.
"The Crown will not simply accept you because you carry Ashbourne blood."
"It will test your heart."
"And if I fail?"
"The Crown will reject you forever."
Those words lingered in Evelyn's mind.
Outside, Ryland tightened the straps on his sword.
"Everything's packed."
"We'll travel light."
"Good," Thaddeus replied.
"Speed matters more than numbers."
Marcus approached.
"Your Majesty, I've selected twenty of our best guards."
"No," Thaddeus answered.
"Only five come with us."
"The rest remain here to protect Hollow Peak."
"What if Kael attacks again?"
"He will," Thaddeus said calmly.
"That's exactly why you stay."
Marcus reluctantly nodded.
Before leaving, Cedric stepped toward Evelyn.
He handed her an old leather map.
"This belonged to your mother."
"She carried it everywhere."
Evelyn carefully unfolded it.
Hidden markings appeared across the kingdoms.
"These symbols weren't on the maps Elias showed us."
"They're secret Ashbourne routes," Cedric explained.
"Only members of the royal family could read them."
The moment Evelyn touched one of the symbols, glowing silver lines appeared across the parchment.
"Amazing," Orion whispered.
"The map recognizes her blood."
Elias smiled faintly.
"Another sign the prophecy is unfolding."
Within an hour, the group departed Hollow Peak.
Thaddeus, Evelyn, Ryland, Orion, Cedric, and five elite guards rode south toward the Kingdom of Solaria.
The journey remained peaceful throughout the first day.
Dense forests slowly gave way to rolling hills covered in golden flowers.
For the first time in weeks, Evelyn almost forgot about the war waiting ahead.
That peace didn't last.
As evening approached, Ryland suddenly raised his fist.
"Stop."
Everyone halted.
"What's wrong?" Evelyn asked.
"We're being watched."
Silence followed.
Then...
An arrow landed directly in front of Thaddeus's horse.
Another struck a nearby tree.
"Ambush!" Marcus shouted.
Masked warriors emerged from every direction.
Unlike Kael's soldiers, these wore white cloaks instead of black.
"Who are they?" Orion asked.
One of the strangers stepped forward.
She lowered her hood.
Long golden hair flowed over polished silver armor.
Her emerald eyes rested on Evelyn.
"Finally," the woman said with a smile.
"I've spent months searching for you."
Ryland immediately positioned himself between the stranger and Evelyn.
"State your name."
"Aurora Valen."
"First Guardian of the Crown."
Cedric's eyes widened.
"You're alive..."
"Barely," Aurora replied.
"Kael has hunted every Guardian for years."
"Most of us are dead."
"How do we know you're telling the truth?" Orion asked.
Aurora removed a golden pendant from around her neck.
It floated into the air.
The moment Evelyn's silver pendant reacted, both relics began glowing brightly.
"The relics recognize each other," Elias had once explained.
"Only true Guardians possess these pendants."
Thaddeus slowly lowered his weapon.
"Why were your archers aiming at us?"
Aurora sighed.
"Because someone else was following you."
She pointed toward the forest behind them.
"They're here."
Suddenly explosions erupted among the trees.
Black smoke swallowed the road.
Kael's soldiers charged from the darkness.
"Kill the Guardian!" one of them shouted.
"Don't let them unite!"
Aurora immediately drew twin golden blades.
"Looks like introductions will have to wait."
Ryland transformed into his wolf.
Orion vanished like a shadow.
Thaddeus unsheathed his black sword.
Evelyn lifted her hands as silver light gathered around her fingers.
For the first time...
She willingly called upon the Heart of Ashbourne.
The battlefield exploded into light and darkness.
And hidden among the trees, a hooded figure quietly watched the battle unfold.
A cruel smile spread across his face.
"Excellent," the Shadow Prophet whispered.
"The pieces are finally coming together."
