The palace trembled as brilliant silver light erupted from the Alpha King's private chambers.
Every wolf inside the kingdom felt the surge of ancient power race through their veins. Soldiers stopped fighting. Guards lowered their weapons. Even the invading warriors outside the palace turned toward the glowing tower in stunned silence.
It wasn't ordinary magic.
It was older.
Far older.
Inside the chamber, Micaela knelt beside the wounded Alpha King, tears streaming down her face.
"Stay with me... please," she whispered.
The silver dagger remained buried in his side.
Dark blood spread across the marble floor.
The poison was working quickly.
His breathing became weaker with every passing second.
"Your Majesty!" Marcus shouted as he rushed into the room with several royal healers.
"Move!"
The healers surrounded the King immediately.
"Remove the dagger," one ordered.
"No!" Selene snapped.
Everyone looked toward her.
"If you pull it out now, the poison will reach his heart instantly."
"Then what do we do?" Marcus demanded.
Selene looked directly at Micaela.
"Only one person can save him now."
"Me?"
"Yes."
"But... I don't know how."
"You don't."
"Your soul does."
The silver light surrounding Micaela intensified.
Princess Anastasia slowly backed away.
"What is happening?"
"The prophecy," Selene answered quietly.
"It has begun."
Suddenly...
The palace floor cracked.
A deep rumble echoed beneath the castle.
Far below...
The thousand-year-old stone door finally opened completely.
A column of moonlight shot upward through the palace foundations.
The light surrounded Micaela.
Everyone shielded their eyes.
Inside the glowing pillar, Micaela heard a gentle voice.
"Do not fear, child."
She looked around.
"Who's there?"
"The one who has watched over your bloodline since the beginning."
Before her appeared the glowing figure of a beautiful woman dressed in silver robes.
Long white hair flowed around her like moonlight itself.
A silver crown rested upon her head.
"The First Alpha Queen," Selene whispered in awe.
Every wolf present immediately lowered their heads.
The spirit smiled gently at Micaela.
"You carry both bloodlines."
"Human compassion..."
"And wolf strength."
"The future has always belonged to you."
Micaela shook her head.
"I'm not strong enough."
"Strength isn't measured by power."
"It's measured by the heart willing to sacrifice everything for another."
The spirit looked toward the dying Alpha King.
"Do you love him?"
Silence filled the room.
Micaela looked at the King.
She remembered the day he protected her from false accusations.
The way he always stood between her and danger.
The warmth she felt every time he looked at her.
The nights she finally slept peacefully because she knew he was nearby.
Slowly...
She nodded.
"Yes."
"I do."
The King's wolf stirred weakly inside him.
"She said it..."
"Yes," the King whispered internally.
"She finally said it."
The spirit smiled.
"Then complete the bond."
"How?"
"Follow your heart."
Without another word, the spirit faded into silver light.
Micaela looked down at the unconscious King.
Ignoring everyone around her, she gently cupped his face.
"Please come back to me," she whispered.
"I don't want a life without you."
Then...
She leaned forward and kissed him.
The moment their lips met...
A blinding wave of silver light exploded throughout the palace.
The ancient mating bond completed.
The Moon Goddess's blessing descended upon them.
The silver dagger shattered into thousands of glowing fragments.
The poison vanished instantly.
The King's wound began healing before everyone's eyes.
Gasps echoed throughout the chamber.
"Impossible..." one healer whispered.
"No," Selene smiled.
"Destiny."
The Alpha King's eyes slowly opened.
The first thing he saw...
Was Micaela crying with relief.
"You're alive," she whispered.
He gently brushed away one of her tears.
"Because you brought me back."
Their foreheads rested together.
The glowing mate mark appeared on both of their wrists.
A silver crescent moon surrounded by a wolf.
Every wolf inside the palace immediately bowed.
"Long live the Alpha King."
"Long live his mate."
Princess Anastasia stared at the glowing mark in horror.
"No..."
"This wasn't supposed to happen."
Cedric slowly lowered his sword.
"It's over, Your Highness."
"No!"
"I won't lose everything!"
She reached for another hidden blade.
Before she could move...
Marcus stepped forward.
"Princess Anastasia."
"By order of the Alpha King..."
"You are under arrest for treason, conspiracy, attempted murder, and crimes against the Crown."
Royal Guards surrounded her.
She looked desperately toward the King.
"You would imprison me... for her?"
The Alpha King stood slowly.
Although weakened, his voice carried throughout the chamber.
"No."
"For your choices."
"Take her."
The guards escorted the defeated Princess away.
She never once took her eyes off Micaela.
"This isn't over," she whispered.
"As long as I breathe..."
"I'll never accept her as Queen."
Later that evening...
The battle outside the palace finally ended.
Without Anastasia's support, the remaining Crimson Fang warriors surrendered or fled into the mountains.
Peace slowly returned to the kingdom.
But deep beneath the palace...
Inside the ancient chamber that had remained sealed for a thousand years...
One final stone tablet continued glowing.
Ancient words slowly appeared across its surface.
"The Queen has awakened..."
"Now the true war begins."
