Graham stared at his phone as Celeste's warning echoed through the room.
“If you do, you will destroy this family.”
He slowly ended the call.
Evelyn didn't look surprised.
“She always was good at making threats sound like concern.”
Graham looked at the envelope on the table.
“What is in it?”
Evelyn shook her head.
“Marcus wanted Tessa to receive it. Not you.”
“Tessa isn't here.”
“Then perhaps it's time she learned the truth.”
Hart carefully placed the envelope into an evidence bag.
“No one opens this until we've documented where it came from and preserved the original.”
I nodded.
We had learned too much to make careless moves now.
Graham looked at me.
“Can you get Tessa here?”
I called her.
She answered after several rings.
“What do you want?”
“You need to come to Evelyn Vale's house.”
There was a long pause.
“Why?”
“Because Marcus left something for you.”
Her breathing changed.
“Who told you that name?”
I looked at Graham.
“Your father.”
The line went completely silent.
Then Tessa whispered, “My father?”
“Come here.”
She arrived forty minutes later.
The moment she saw the photograph of Marcus holding her as a baby, all the color disappeared from her face.
She picked it up with trembling fingers.
“Where did you get this?”
Evelyn answered softly.
“Your father left it with me.”
Tessa looked at Graham.
“You knew?”
“I didn't,” he said. “Not until yesterday.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“Mom knew.”
It wasn't a question.
Graham nodded.
Tessa turned away.
For several seconds, she said nothing.
Then she noticed the evidence bag on the table.
“What's that?”
Hart explained that Marcus had left an envelope for her.
Tessa stared at it.
“Why would he leave something for me after all these years?”
Evelyn answered, “Because he knew the truth would eventually become necessary.”
Tessa took a shaky breath.
“Open it.”
Hart removed the envelope carefully and documented its condition before opening it.
Inside was a handwritten letter and several copies of financial documents.
Graham read the first page.
His expression changed immediately.
“This trust was altered thirty-two years ago.”
I leaned closer.
The documents showed that a significant portion of the Bellamy family trust had originally been assigned to Tessa.
But a later amendment had transferred control to Celeste.
The signature authorizing the change appeared to belong to Graham.
Graham stared at it.
“That's not my signature.”
Hart examined the document.
“Then we may be looking at another forgery.”
Tessa looked at me.
“Why would my mother steal my inheritance?”
I thought about the fake DNA report.
“Maybe because if your biological father was Marcus, Celeste knew your position in the trust could be challenged.”
Tessa's face hardened.
“So she used Owen.”
No one answered.
But we all knew.
Celeste had needed a scandal powerful enough to distract everyone from an older crime.
A fake paternity test had been the perfect weapon.
Then Hart turned to another document.
“There's one more name here.”
She pointed to a witness signature.
“Adrian Bellamy.”
My stomach dropped.
Adrian hadn't merely known about Celeste's secret.
He had apparently helped preserve it.
Tessa looked at me.
“Does my brother know?”
“I think he knows much more than he's admitted.”
My phone vibrated.
A message from Officer Brooks appeared.
“We recovered the original livestream server data. You need to see this immediately.”
I opened the attachment.
The recovered footage showed the restaurant before the party began.
Tessa was arranging the hidden cameras.
Celeste was giving instructions.
Adrian entered the room carrying the forged report.
But then the footage showed something none of us had expected.
Adrian handed Celeste a second envelope.
Celeste opened it and read its contents.
Her face changed from confidence to panic.
Then she looked directly at Adrian and said something the camera clearly captured.
“If Graham finds out what happened that night, we're all finished.”
I replayed the clip.
Again.
And again.
There was another secret.
One that had nothing to do with Owen's paternity.
And Adrian had been protecting it from the beginning.
