EMILIA POV
Three weeks had passed since the battle at Black Canyon.
The desert had finally fallen silent.
The burned remains of the Black Wolves' compound were now nothing more than ashes scattered by the wind.
Victor Kane was officially declared dead.
The remaining Black Wolves had either surrendered or disappeared.
Without their leader, the organization crumbled within days.
The Reapers suffered the same fate.
For the first time in years...
Desert Ridge knew peace.
The Iron Serpents spent every day rebuilding.
Damaged buildings were repaired.
New gates replaced the destroyed ones.
Children laughed around the clubhouse again.
Life slowly returned.
Marco's shoulder healed faster than expected.
Although he still complained every morning, Mama C insisted he was simply enjoying the attention.
"You're impossible," Marco grumbled one afternoon.
"And you're still alive because of me," Mama C replied while changing his bandages.
Everyone laughed.
It felt good to laugh again.
Ghost had changed too.
The anger that had haunted him for six years slowly disappeared.
He still trained every morning.
Still worked in the garage.
But now... he smiled.
More importantly...
He smiled because of me.
One evening, I stood alone beside my father's grave.
Fresh desert flowers rested against the headstone.
"Hi, Dad," I whispered.
"The war is over."
"You were right."
"Family isn't about blood."
"You chose me... and I'll spend the rest of my life honoring that choice."
I gently touched the engraved letters.
"You'll always be my father."
A quiet voice spoke behind me.
"He'd be proud of you."
Ghost.
He walked beside me and placed another bouquet near the grave.
"I miss him," I admitted.
"So do I."
"He believed in us before we did."
Ghost smiled softly.
"He also scared the hell out of me."
I laughed.
"He enjoyed that."
For several minutes, neither of us spoke.
The wind carried the scent of desert rain across the cemetery.
"There's something I need to do," Ghost finally said.
"What?"
"Come with me."
He led me to the old ridge overlooking Desert Ridge.
The same place where we'd watched sunsets as teenagers.
"Do you remember what you said here when you were sixteen?" he asked.
"Probably something embarrassing."
"You said if you ever got married..."
"You wanted the whole desert to witness it."
I laughed.
"I really said that?"
"Word for word."
"I was dramatic."
"Still are."
Ghost reached into his jacket.
This time, there was no hesitation.
He knelt on one knee.
"Emilia Romano..."
"I loved you when we were teenagers."
"I loved you while I was gone."
"I loved you through every lie, every mile, and every war."
"I don't want another day without you."
"Will you marry me?"
Tears immediately filled my eyes.
"Yes."
"There isn't another answer."
"Yes."
Ghost slipped the white gold ring onto my finger.
It fit perfectly.
Before he could stand, I pulled him into a kiss.
When we finally pulled apart, applause erupted behind us.
"About time!"
I turned around in surprise.
The entire Iron Serpents club stood on the ridge.
Mama C wiped tears from her eyes.
Several members whistled loudly.
Marco folded his arms with a fake scowl.
"You could've asked my permission first," he said.
Ghost looked nervous.
"Should I?"
Marco walked forward slowly.
For a long moment, no one spoke.
Then he held out his hand.
"Take care of my sister."
"Or I'll finish what Dad started."
Ghost laughed with relief before shaking his hand.
"I promise."
"Forever."
Marco pulled him into a hug.
"Welcome to the family... officially."
Everyone cheered.
That evening, the clubhouse celebrated long after sunset.
Music echoed across Desert Ridge.
Motorcycles lined the parking lot.
Families danced.
Children played.
For the first time in years...
No one feared tomorrow.
As Ghost wrapped his arm around my shoulders, I looked toward the stars.
"Dad," I whispered silently.
"We finally made it home."
