The next morning, Atlas arrived at Pine Ridge exactly at nine.
He stood outside the gate with empty hands.
No gifts.
No guards.
No excuses.
Elena watched him from the porch for a moment before opening the gate.
“You can come in.”
Atlas nodded.
“Thank you.”
Lily was sitting on the grass, arranging small stones into a circle.
The moment she saw Atlas, her face brightened.
“Daddy!”
Atlas smiled.
“Good morning, little star.”
Lily ran toward him.
This time, Atlas didn't hesitate.
He crouched down and caught her in his arms.
She wrapped her little arms around his neck.
Atlas closed his eyes.
For one precious moment, the entire world disappeared.
...
Elena sat on the porch while Atlas and Lily played in the garden.
She noticed something different about him.
He wasn't trying to impress Lily.
He wasn't telling her about Blackwood.
He wasn't showing off his strength as an Alpha.
He simply listened.
When Lily wanted to collect flowers, he followed her.
When she wanted to build a tiny house for her wooden wolves, he helped her carry the branches.
When she complained that the roof kept falling down, he patiently rebuilt it.
After nearly an hour, Lily suddenly asked, “Daddy, why don't you live here?”
Atlas froze.
He looked toward Elena.
She remained silent.
Atlas turned back to Lily.
“Because your mother and I live in different places.”
Lily frowned.
“Because you don't like Mama?”
Atlas's chest tightened.
“No.”
He shook his head.
“I love your mother very much.”
Elena's fingers tightened around the cup in her hand.
Atlas continued quietly.
“But sometimes loving someone doesn't mean you get to stay beside them.”
Lily thought about that.
“Did you make Mama sad?”
Atlas looked down.
“Yes.”
“A lot?”
He swallowed.
“Yes.”
Lily's small face became serious.
“Then you have to say sorry.”
Atlas gave a faint smile.
“I already did.”
“Say it again.”
Atlas looked toward Elena.
She didn't stop him.
He stood and walked toward the porch.
He stopped several feet away.
“Elena, I'm sorry.”
She looked at him.
“For believing Mara over you.”
His voice was steady.
“For putting you in danger.”
He paused.
“For failing to protect our daughter when she needed me most.”
Elena's eyes became wet.
Atlas continued.
“And for every time I made you feel like you weren't enough.”
The garden became silent.
Lily watched them both.
Elena finally lowered her gaze.
“I heard you.”
Atlas nodded.
He didn't ask for forgiveness.
He simply walked back to Lily.
...
That afternoon, Lily fell asleep against Atlas's chest.
Atlas sat beneath the oak tree without moving.
Even when his arm went numb, he didn't shift.
Elena stepped outside.
She looked at her sleeping daughter.
“You can put her on the couch.”
Atlas shook his head.
“She's comfortable.”
Elena sat beside him.
For several minutes, neither spoke.
Finally, Elena asked, “What happened to Mara?”
Atlas's expression became serious.
“The council has removed her from the Luna residence.”
Elena nodded.
“And her son?”
“He's safe.”
Atlas looked at Lily.
“His inheritance will be handled according to the law. I won't use my position to give him anything he isn't entitled to.”
Elena studied him.
“You're changing.”
Atlas gave a tired smile.
“I'm trying.”
“Trying isn't the same as changing.”
“I know.”
He looked at her.
“That's why I don't expect you to believe me yet.”
...
A soft sound came from Atlas's arms.
Lily slowly opened her eyes.
She looked at her father sleepily.
“Daddy?”
“I'm here.”
She rested her head against his chest again.
“Don't go.”
Atlas's eyes burned.
“I won't leave until you wake up.”
Lily smiled.
A few minutes later, she was asleep again.
Elena watched Atlas's expression.
There was no Alpha arrogance left in his eyes.
Only fear.
Fear that one day Lily might stop wanting him.
Elena understood that fear.
She had lived with it herself for years.
...
As evening approached, Atlas carefully carried Lily to her bedroom.
He tucked the blanket around her.
Then he stood beside the bed for several seconds.
“Goodnight, little star.”
Lily opened one eye.
“Daddy?”
“Yes?”
“Will you come tomorrow?”
Atlas looked toward Elena standing in the doorway.
He waited for her answer.
Elena was quiet for a moment.
Then she said, “If you keep your promise.”
Atlas smiled.
“I will.”
Lily closed her eyes.
“Okay.”
...
Outside the bedroom, Elena closed the door softly.
Atlas stood in the hallway.
“She trusts you.”
He looked at her.
“I know.”
“Don't make her regret it.”
Atlas's expression became solemn.
“I won't.”
Elena studied him.
For years, she had waited for Atlas to understand what his choices had cost her.
Now he finally did.
But forgiveness would take time.
Trust would take even longer.
And love was something neither of them was ready to discuss.
Still, when Atlas walked toward the gate that evening, Elena didn't feel the same urge to close the door behind him.
She watched him disappear into the fading light.
Then she looked back at Lily's bedroom.
For the first time, she allowed herself to wonder whether a broken family could become something different.
Not the family she once dreamed of.
Not the family she had lost.
But perhaps a new one.
One built slowly.
Honestly.
And this time, without lies.
