Three days after Victoria's arrest, Wiltspoon was still buzzing with the shocking news.
Every major newspaper carried the same headline.
"Lang Heiress Faces Kidnapping Charges."
"York Corporation Leads Fight Against Corporate Corruption."
Inside Lang Group Headquarters, chaos had taken over.
Shareholders demanded emergency meetings.
Investors began withdrawing millions of dollars.
The company's stock price continued to fall.
Richard Lang stood in the boardroom, his face pale with anger.
"Control the media!" he shouted.
"Stop this from spreading any further!"
One of the directors slowly stood.
"It's too late, Mr. Lang."
"Several business partners have already terminated their contracts."
"Banks are reviewing our loans."
"And the police have requested access to our financial records."
Richard slammed his fist onto the table.
"This is all Zachary York's doing!"
"No," another director replied calmly.
"This happened because Victoria broke the law."
The room fell silent.
Later that afternoon...
York Corporation held a brief press conference.
Standing before dozens of reporters, Zachary addressed the public.
"York Corporation does not celebrate another company's downfall."
"However, we believe no individual is above the law."
"Justice protects every honest citizen."
"That includes my wife."
His calm statement quickly spread across every news channel.
Public opinion overwhelmingly supported Zachary and Serenity.
Meanwhile...
At the bookstore, customers continued arriving with flowers and messages of encouragement.
"Mrs. York," an elderly teacher said with a smile,
"Your courage inspired many young women."
"Thank you," Serenity replied sincerely.
"I simply tried to do the right thing."
Jasmine quietly watched from behind the counter.
"You're becoming famous," she teased.
"I'd rather be known for selling books," Serenity laughed.
"Too late."
"Now you're the city's favorite billionaire's wife."
Both women laughed together.
That evening, Ben entered Zachary's office carrying another report.
"Sir, the investigation has uncovered additional evidence."
"Victoria wasn't acting alone."
"Several executives from Lang Group helped arrange the fake charity event."
"Have the evidence delivered to the police."
"Immediately."
"Already done, sir."
"Good."
"And Richard Lang?"
"The authorities are questioning him regarding obstruction of justice and financial misconduct."
Zachary nodded silently.
He felt no satisfaction.
Only relief that Serenity was safe.
Two days later...
The courthouse was surrounded by reporters.
Victoria entered wearing a plain suit, her confidence completely gone.
The judge reviewed the evidence for several hours.
Finally, the verdict was announced.
"The court finds the defendant guilty of criminal conspiracy, unlawful confinement, and attempted coercion."
"Sentencing will follow under the law."
Gasps filled the courtroom.
Victoria closed her eyes.
She knew her life would never be the same again.
Outside the courthouse, Richard Lang approached Zachary.
"Mr. York," he said quietly.
"This has gone far enough."
"Please... show mercy."
Zachary looked at him calmly.
"Did your daughter show mercy when she kidnapped my wife?"
Richard lowered his head.
He had no answer.
"The law will decide her future," Zachary continued.
"Not me."
Without another word, he walked away.
Across the street, Serenity waited beside the car.
"Is everything over?" she asked.
"Almost," Zachary replied.
"Justice has been served."
"Then let's leave the past behind," Serenity said softly.
"Holding onto hatred only creates more pain."
Zachary smiled.
"You always see the good in people."
"Someone has to," she answered with a gentle laugh.
"Otherwise the world becomes too dark."
He looked at her for a long moment.
"That's why I fell in love with you."
Serenity blushed.
"You're making it difficult for me to stay calm."
"Good," he replied with a smile.
"Because I plan to keep reminding you every day."
As their car disappeared into the evening traffic, the Lang family's empire continued to crumble behind them.
For the first time since their marriage...
No enemies remained between Zachary and Serenity.
But ahead of them...
A new chapter awaited.
One built not on secrets or danger...
But on love, trust, and the future they would create together.
