Chapter 20: A New Beginning

A week after Victoria's conviction, life in Wiltspoon slowly returned to normal.

The media finally shifted its attention to other stories.

For the first time in months, Serenity enjoyed a peaceful morning at the bookstore.

"No reporters," Jasmine said happily.

"No drama."

"It's almost suspicious."

Serenity laughed.

"Let's hope it stays that way."

Business had never been better.

Customers from across the city visited the bookstore after hearing about Serenity's kindness.

Many bought books simply to support the small business.

"I think we need more shelves," Jasmine joked.

"We're running out of space."

"That's a good problem to have," Serenity replied.

Later that afternoon, Zachary arrived unexpectedly.

He was carrying a bouquet of white lilies.

"For you," he said.

Serenity blinked in surprise.

"Flowers?"

"Just because."

"You don't need a special occasion to make someone smile."

Jasmine quietly smiled before slipping into the storage room.

"I'll give you two some privacy," she whispered.

After work, Zachary drove Serenity to a quiet hill overlooking the city.

The sunset painted the sky with shades of orange and pink.

"It's beautiful," Serenity said softly.

"I come here whenever I need to think," Zachary admitted.

"Today... I wanted to share it with you."

The two sat together on a wooden bench.

For several minutes, they simply admired the view.

"Serenity," Zachary finally said.

"When we first got married..."

"I believed it would only be a practical arrangement."

"I planned to protect you, respect you, and eventually tell you the truth about my identity."

"I never expected to fall in love."

Serenity smiled gently.

"Neither did I."

"Yet here we are."

"Do you regret marrying me?" Zachary asked quietly.

She looked directly into his eyes.

"Not for a single second."

"Even knowing who you really are?"

"Especially knowing who you really are."

"Because beneath all the wealth and success..."

"You're still the same man who made breakfast with me, listened to my worries, and stood beside me when I needed you most."

Zachary reached for her hand.

"Then let me ask you something."

"Will you stay beside me... not because we're married..."

"But because you truly want a future with me?"

Serenity smiled through tears of happiness.

"Yes."

"I'd choose you again."

"Every single time."

Zachary gently pulled her closer.

Under the golden evening sky, he kissed her forehead.

"Thank you," he whispered.

"For giving me a family I never realized I needed."

At that moment, Ben called.

"Sir," he said.

"Tomorrow's charity foundation meeting is confirmed."

"The board has approved Mrs. York's proposal."

"Proposal?" Serenity asked after the call ended.

Zachary smiled.

"I wanted to surprise you."

"York Foundation is launching a literacy program for children across the country."

"I'd like you to lead it."

"Me?"

"Why?"

"Because no one believes in the power of books more than you do."

"And because I trust you completely."

Serenity felt overwhelmed.

"I'd be honored."

"Then it's settled."

"Tomorrow marks another new beginning."

As they stood together watching the city lights appear below them, both realized something.

The battles of the past had ended.

Now...

Their future would be built on hope, love, and shared dreams.

Neither of them noticed Grandma May watching from a nearby gazebo with a satisfied smile.

"I knew those two stubborn children belonged together," she chuckled.

"The Moon must have smiled on them after all."
