The following evening, York Corporation hosted its annual Charity and Business Gala.
It was the most prestigious event of the year in Wiltspoon.
Government officials, business leaders, celebrities, and philanthropists filled the magnificent ballroom.
Outside, hundreds of reporters waited eagerly.
"President York is expected to make an important announcement tonight," one journalist reported live.
Inside a private suite, Serenity adjusted the elegant midnight-blue gown specially chosen by Grandma May.
"I don't think I've ever worn anything this beautiful," she admitted.
Grandma May smiled proudly.
"You don't need expensive clothes to shine, child."
"Your kindness has always been your greatest beauty."
A knock sounded at the door.
"Come in," Grandma May called.
The door opened.
Zachary stepped inside wearing a perfectly tailored black tuxedo.
For a brief moment...
He forgot how to breathe.
Serenity looked breathtaking.
"Do I look alright?" she asked nervously.
Zachary smiled.
"No."
"You look incredible."
Serenity blushed.
"Thank you."
Grandma May laughed.
"Stop staring at your wife and take her downstairs before everyone starts wondering where the host disappeared."
A few minutes later...
The grand staircase leading into the ballroom slowly opened.
Every conversation came to a halt.
All eyes turned toward the entrance.
Zachary descended first.
Beside him walked Serenity, her hand resting gently in his.
Camera flashes illuminated the ballroom.
"They're stunning together," someone whispered.
"Now I understand why President York chose her."
"She carries herself with such grace."
Ben quietly smiled from the side.
"Mrs. York has won everyone over without even trying."
Throughout the evening, Zachary introduced Serenity to business partners from around the world.
"This is my wife, Serenity York."
"It's a pleasure to meet you," Serenity greeted each guest warmly.
Unlike many socialites, she treated every person with equal respect.
She thanked waiters.
Complimented the musicians.
Spent time speaking with scholarship students invited by the York Foundation.
Soon, guests began praising her sincerity.
"She's exactly the kind of First Lady a company like York Corporation needs," one executive commented.
As dinner concluded, Zachary stepped onto the stage.
The ballroom became silent.
"Ladies and gentlemen," he began.
"Tonight isn't only about celebrating another successful year."
"Tonight is also about gratitude."
"There was a time when I believed success meant standing alone."
"I was wrong."
He looked directly at Serenity.
"The woman who changed that belief is here tonight."
Every guest turned toward Serenity.
"Before I met Serenity..."
"I measured life through profit, contracts, and achievements."
"She taught me that true success is measured by kindness, trust, and the people we love."
Serenity felt tears forming in her eyes.
"Because of her," Zachary continued,
"York Foundation will expand its literacy program nationwide."
"And beginning today..."
"Mrs. Serenity York will serve as Chairwoman of the York Literacy Foundation."
Thunderous applause filled the ballroom.
Serenity looked completely stunned.
"Me?" she whispered.
Grandma May gently squeezed her hand.
"Go on, dear."
"You've earned this."
Serenity walked onto the stage.
She stood beside Zachary as the audience continued applauding.
"I..." she began nervously.
"I never imagined standing here."
"I'm just someone who loves books."
"If reading can change even one child's future..."
"Then every effort we make will be worthwhile."
Her simple words touched everyone present.
Many guests stood to applaud once more.
Later that evening, reporters crowded around the couple.
"President York!"
"What inspired today's announcement?"
Zachary smiled.
"My wife."
"Mrs. York, how does it feel becoming Chairwoman?"
Serenity smiled humbly.
"It's not a title that matters."
"It's the opportunity to help others."
The next morning, newspapers across the country carried the same headline.
"President York Publicly Honors His Wife at Annual Gala."
"Serenity York Named Chairwoman of National Literacy Foundation."
"Wiltspoon's Most Admired Couple Inspires the Nation."
Looking at the newspaper over breakfast, Zachary smiled.
"Looks like you're becoming more famous than I am."
Serenity laughed.
"Only because people are curious about the billionaire's wife."
"Maybe," Zachary replied.
"But soon they'll know you for your own achievements."
As sunlight streamed through the apartment windows, Serenity realized something.
She was no longer simply Mrs. York.
She was beginning to create a legacy of her own.
