Chapter 25: The Grand Opening

The morning of the grand opening arrived under a clear blue sky.

Colorful balloons decorated the entrance of the new York Community Book Center.

Families, students, teachers, authors, and reporters gathered outside long before the ceremony began.

Children excitedly peeked through the glass doors, eager to explore the enormous bookstore.

"It's finally happening," Jasmine said with a wide smile.

"Can you believe this started as one tiny bookstore?"

Serenity looked at the magnificent building with tears in her eyes.

"It still feels like a dream."

"Then let's make it a beautiful one," Jasmine replied.

At exactly ten o'clock, several luxury vehicles arrived.

Grandma May stepped out first, smiling proudly.

"Look at this place," she said.

"I knew my granddaughter could do anything."

Ben laughed softly.

"She's going to make you cry before the ceremony even starts, Grandma."

"I'm old enough to cry whenever I want," Grandma May answered proudly.

Everyone laughed.

Moments later, Zachary arrived.

Dressed in a navy-blue suit, he walked directly toward Serenity.

"Ready?" he asked.

"As ready as I'll ever be."

He gently squeezed her hand.

"Whatever happens today..."

"Remember that this place exists because you never stopped believing in your dream."

The opening ceremony soon began.

A stage had been built outside the entrance.

The mayor of Wiltspoon stepped forward first.

"Today," he announced,

"Our city welcomes more than a bookstore."

"We welcome a place where knowledge, imagination, and opportunity will grow for generations."

The audience applauded enthusiastically.

Next, Zachary approached the microphone.

"When I first met Serenity," he began,

"She showed me that success isn't measured by wealth."

"It's measured by the lives we touch."

"This center is her dream."

"York Corporation is simply honored to help make that dream a reality."

More applause echoed through the crowd.

Finally, Serenity stood before the microphone.

She looked at the hundreds of smiling faces.

"When I was little," she said softly,

"Books became my safe place."

"They taught me to dream bigger than my circumstances."

"Today, I hope every child who enters this building discovers that same hope."

"Because one good story can change an entire life."

Many people wiped away tears.

The audience rose to its feet in a standing ovation.

Grandma May proudly clapped the loudest.

"Now," the mayor announced,

"Would Mr. and Mrs. York please cut the ribbon?"

Zachary and Serenity held the golden scissors together.

"Three..."

"Two..."

"One!"

Snip!

The red ribbon fell.

Thunderous applause erupted.

The doors officially opened.

Children rushed inside with excited laughter.

Some immediately ran to the colorful reading corner.

Others explored the shelves filled with books from around the world.

Parents smiled as volunteers helped children register for free library cards.

Throughout the afternoon, authors signed books while storytelling sessions filled every reading room.

The building buzzed with life.

Watching from the second-floor balcony, Serenity smiled peacefully.

"Listen," she whispered.

"They're laughing."

Zachary looked downstairs.

Children sat on colorful cushions while a volunteer read aloud.

Their joyful laughter echoed through the building.

"You were right," Zachary said.

Serenity leaned gently against his shoulder.

"Thank you for believing in mine."

"Always," he replied.
