Chapter 14: Confessions of the Heart

The arrest of Victor Kane and Richard Hart dominated every news channel for the next several days.

Their criminal empire collapsed almost overnight.

Dozens of executives, politicians, and business partners were taken into custody.

For the first time in years, Emily finally felt like she could breathe again.

Robert Hart's name was officially cleared.

The government publicly recognized him as the whistleblower who exposed one of the country's largest financial corruption scandals.

Emily stood quietly in the cemetery, holding a bouquet of white lilies.

"Dad," she whispered, placing the flowers beside his memorial stone.

"You kept your promise."

"You protected us."

"And now everyone knows the truth."

Tears rolled gently down her cheeks.

"I wish you were here."

"There's someone I really want you to meet."

A warm hand rested softly on her shoulder.

Emily turned around.

Dominic stood behind her, dressed in a simple black suit.

"Ready to go?" he asked gently.

She smiled through her tears.

"Yeah."

As they walked toward the car, Emily quietly slipped her hand into his.

Dominic looked down at their joined hands but said nothing.

Instead, he intertwined their fingers.

Neither wanted to let go.

Back at Steele Empire, life slowly returned to normal.

Employees celebrated the company's successful partnership expansion.

Marcus entered Dominic's office carrying two cups of coffee.

"You know," he said with a grin.

"The criminal mastermind is in prison."

"Emily's safe."

"Your investigation is over."

"So what's stopping you now?"

Dominic looked up from his paperwork.

"What are you talking about?"

"Don't play dumb."

"Everyone in this building knows you're in love with your secretary."

"Everyone except the two of you."

Dominic sighed.

"It's complicated."

"Why?"

"Because I'm her boss."

"Because she's been through enough already."

"Because I don't want her to think I'm taking advantage of the situation."

Marcus laughed.

"You're overthinking everything."

"Talk to her."

"The worst she can say is no."

That evening, Emily finished organizing the final documents from the Kane investigation.

She walked into Dominic's office carrying a folder.

"Everything has been completed."

"The board also approved the scholarship foundation in your father's name."

Emily's eyes widened.

"You actually did it?"

"I promised I would."

"Students studying finance and ethics will receive scholarships every year."

"Your father's legacy deserves to inspire others."

Emily's heart melted.

"Thank you, Dominic."

"You don't have to thank me."

"Yes, I do."

"You've done more for me than anyone else ever has."

Silence settled between them.

Dominic slowly stood from behind his desk.

"Emily..."

"There's something I've wanted to tell you for a long time."

She looked into his grey eyes.

"What is it?"

"The night we met... I thought it would be nothing more than one unforgettable mistake."

"Then Monday came."

"You walked into my office."

"And somehow... every day after that became the best part of my life."

Emily felt her heartbeat quicken.

"Dominic..."

"I tried to ignore what I was feeling."

"I told myself you were simply my employee."

"But somewhere along the way..."

"You became the woman I wanted beside me every single day."

Emily's eyes filled with tears.

"I love you."

"Not because you needed protection."

"Not because I saved you."

"I love you because you make me a better man."

"Because every future I imagine... has you in it."

Emily smiled through her tears.

"Do you know something funny?"

"What?"

"I fell in love with you long before I realized it myself."

"Every time you protected me..."

"Every time you believed me..."

"Every time you looked at me like I mattered..."

"I fell a little harder."

Dominic stepped closer.

"So... is that a yes?"

Emily laughed softly.

"That's definitely a yes."

She wrapped her arms around his neck.

Dominic gently pulled her into his embrace.

This time, their kiss wasn't driven by passion or desire.

It was slow.

Gentle.

Filled with everything they had been too afraid to say.

Outside the office, Marcus quietly closed the door with a satisfied smile.

"Finally," he whispered.
