Chapter 16: The Prophecy Awakens

Winter tightened its grip over the Shadowlands.

Snow covered the mountain peaks while icy winds swept across the valleys surrounding Shadow Keep.

Inside the fortress, however, warmth filled every hallway.

Children laughed beside roaring fireplaces.

Families prepared for the annual Moon Festival.

For the first time in many years, Seraphina found herself looking forward to tomorrow.

She had almost forgotten what peace felt like.

"Lady Seraphina," an elderly healer called.

"The herbs you requested are ready."

"Thank you, Mira."

She accepted the woven basket with a grateful smile.

As she turned to leave, a sudden sharp pain shot through her chest.

"Ah..."

She staggered backward, nearly dropping the basket.

"Lady Seraphina!"

Several healers rushed toward her.

"I'm alright," she whispered, though her breathing had become uneven.

The pain disappeared almost as quickly as it had arrived.

Darius entered moments later after hearing the commotion.

"What happened?"

"I don't know," Seraphina admitted.

"It felt like..."

She stopped speaking.

The sensation had been familiar.

It was the old mate bond.

Somewhere far away...

Kael was hurting.

Miles south, inside Silvercrest Palace, Kael knelt on the training grounds.

His warriors surrounded him in alarm.

"Alpha!" Rowan shouted.

"Call the healer!"

Kael slowly pushed himself back to his feet.

"I'm fine."

"You collapsed."

"Only for a moment."

He pressed a hand against his chest.

"The bond... reacted."

"With Luna Seraphina?"

Kael nodded slowly.

"She's alive."

"And stronger than before."

Back in Shadow Keep, Darius escorted Seraphina to the ancient temple hidden beneath the fortress.

Massive stone pillars surrounded an enormous black crystal glowing softly beneath the earth.

"What is this place?" she asked.

"The Heart of the Shadowlands," Darius replied.

"Only the Alpha may enter."

"Then why bring me here?"

"Because the crystal reacted the moment you arrived."

She looked toward the glowing stone.

As she stepped closer, the crystal suddenly pulsed with silver light.

Ancient symbols appeared across its surface.

"Impossible..." one of the temple elders whispered.

"What does it mean?" Seraphina asked.

The elderly wolf slowly approached the crystal.

"The prophecy has awakened."

"What prophecy?"

The elder recited words that had been preserved for centuries.

"When the Moon abandons her chosen daughter..."

"She shall walk through darkness..."

"Where a king without fate shall offer her freedom..."

"Together they shall unite divided wolves..."

"And end the chains destiny placed upon them all."

The temple fell silent.

Seraphina stared at the elder in disbelief.

"You're saying... this prophecy is about me?"

"We believe so."

"No," she said immediately.

"I'm nobody special."

"I was simply a Luna who lost everything."

Darius stepped beside her.

"Sometimes history begins with ordinary people."

"Not queens."

"Not heroes."

"Just someone brave enough to make a different choice."

Before Seraphina could answer, another pulse erupted from the crystal.

This time, a map formed across its glowing surface.

A single location burned brighter than all the others.

"Blood Fang Valley," Darius said quietly.

"What is it?"

"An abandoned battlefield."

"No pack has entered it for decades."

The elder's face grew pale.

"According to legend... that's where the First Alpha sealed away the Crown of Unity."

"The artifact capable of breaking the ancient laws of fate."

Seraphina frowned.

"Breaking fate?"

"If the legends are true," the elder replied,

"Whoever claims the Crown can rewrite the laws governing mate bonds forever."

Silence filled the temple.

Seraphina slowly looked toward Darius.

"If that's real..."

"Then no wolf would ever be trapped by destiny again," he finished.

Far away, hidden inside a ruined fortress, a cloaked figure watched a crystal identical to the one beneath Shadow Keep.

Its surface had begun glowing the same brilliant silver.

"So... it has begun," the stranger whispered.

"Inform every Alpha."

"The Crown of Unity has awakened."

"And whoever reaches Blood Fang Valley first..."

A cold smile spread beneath the hood.

"...will decide the future of every wolf alive."
